Onya Baby CarriersWhat do you get when you combine a comfortable, easy-to-use baby carrier and a portable child seat? The distinct impression that someone should have invented this a long time ago.

[don’t miss an amazing giveaway after the jump!]

It’s called the Onya Baby Carrier, and it has the ability to make your life easier and your diaper bag lighter.

The Onya has all the features I demand in a buckle carrier: it’s very carefully made, with tough seams and safety buckles. It’s comfortable and helps take the weight off your shoulders. It’s cozy for baby, with a darted seat that keeps little bottoms and backs correctly aligned and a built-in sleeping hood. Plus it’s approved for kids from 15 pounds to 45 pounds, also known as the “boy, can I get in a lot of trouble” stage.
I tried the Outback version of the Onya, which is made with rip-stop nylon and an air-mesh lining for great moisture-wicking. That means it’s not buttery soft– but it is great for warmer weather, or those situations in which you’re worried about sweating. I can imagine it’s the perfect carrier for hiking, going to Disney World, or a long July day in the city with subways and lots of busy sidewalks.

Their other version, the Cruiser, is made of soft, 100% cotton and offers all the same features, just with a different fabric component.

All of this would make Onya a pretty good choice, but they’ve also added in the neatest feature: a built-in chair harness. There’s a hidden zippered pouch that holds the attached harness and utilizes the chest and waist buckles to make a light, safe seat when attached to most restaurant chairs. Of course, like any chair harness, it’s only for babies sitting up well on their own and should be used with caution. But considering how often I had to run out to my car in the rain to grab our Totseat for a wiggly toddler, I love the fact that it’s built right into the Onya.
The price is reasonable at $149, the quality is good, and that chair harness is solid gold for kids in the age 1-2 range. You can carry your baby facing you or on your back, and they have some baby wearing videos to help you, especially if you’re new to buckle carriers.

My only caveat would be that I’m a sucker for a pretty carrier, and the Onya’s color choices are limited and neutral. But if you want a dependable and useful baby carrier that will lighten your load in more ways than one, I think you’ll be pleased.~Delilah
