Since joining the cult of motherhood in 2004, myregular trek to some loud, late night dance club where I slugged down glow-in-the-dark cocktails has been replaced with a different kind of play. One that’s decidedly strobe light free.
But oh how I long for a little taste of the old life.
It’s hard to believe I only just discovered Baby Loves Disco, but now that I have, I may be well on my way to shaking it like a Polaroid picture. Created by mom and professional dancer Heather Murphy, who later teamed up with Brooklyn-basedmusic guy Andy Hurwitz, BabyLoves Disco is a monthly event across the country where parents andkiddos take over a bona fide (but baby-proofed) local dance club during the post nap/pre-dinner hours and get their groove on. Do not expect fourAussies in colored shirts music at these parties. Think real indie-cred DJs spinning real 70s and 80s disco tunes. Plus there are bubble machines, a chill-out room, diaper changing stations, a full spread of healthy snacks, and of course–lots and lots of dancing.
Baby Loves Disco is now in 14 major US cities, so check the listing and pray that there’s one near you. -Kristen
Check the website for New Year’s Eve day parties around the country. But hurry, they’re selling out fast.
