Sometimes I look at comfy cozy baby accessories and wonder why business suits aren’t made in silky chenille too. It seems like we always give up the best things as we grow up. Things like lullabies. And after spending some time listening to four of Mae Robertson’s lullaby collections, I really can’t imagine why we all aren’t serenaded to the land of nod each night.
A former owner of children’s stores, Mae was a new mother, when a friend overheard her singing the traditional folk song "The Water Is Wide" to her baby. He convinced her to record it and a new career was born. Now she has four award-winning albums in her Lullaby & Love Song Collection: All Through The Night, The Sun Upon The Lake Is Low, Sweet Dreams of Home, and the newly released Dream.
The fantastic song selections in her collections span the entire 20th century and cover a variety of dreamy melodies from those you know to those you’ll be glad to discover. Plus, they’re absolutely beautiful. Think Lillith Fair meets Judy Garland. Or Shawn Colvin meets Carly Simon. Actually, I kept trying to think of exactly who her voice reminds me of. And then I figured it out: An angel.
