I’m an old-fashioned kind of mom. You won’t find tubes of yogurt in my refrigerator, licensed characters on my kids’ sheets, or a portable DVD player in my car. I don’t care whether we’re driving five miles or flying five hundred miles – Dora is not my co-pilot.
One of the many non-electronic ways to keep kids occupied (and not whining "are we there yet" in chorus) is playing cards. Granted, most games require kids to identify both numbers and suits, but these Amazing Places cards from Birdcage Press, featuring beautiful pictures and facts about our National Parks, will hold their interest even if they’re not yet ready to play Go Fish.
Read them aloud, pass them around, and save them until the kids are ready to learn Solitaire. And I don’t mean the computer version either. –Julie
