As much as I would like to believe I’m an expert on my own child, I’ve been known on occasion to bring home a book before realizing that yeah, maybe she’s not quite ready for the whole "and then Bambi’s mother dies" thing. Now Savvy Source is helping me out quite a bit in this department.

The website (that we’ve reviewed in the past) has evolved quite a bit from its original premise as an interactive preschool database, and one of their newest features is  a very helpful quiz to help match your kid up with the learning toys, games and activities he’s ready for.

Don’t worry, you won’t be graded on whether your two year old can write his name in upper and lowercase yet. But spend the time on the quiz  and get a saved database with a ton of really good ideas. Like a ton. My own list has nearly 150.

It’s not all stuff to buy by the way. You’ll find play a game of freeze tag or plant some seeds thrown in between the eeBoo lacing cards and the Eric Carle books. I was also happy to see the recos steered clear of cartoon characters and crappy plastic toys. Which means I think I’ve got some super new ideas for the next rainy day.  -Liz
