When I hear that baby furniture is eco-conscious, I admit the first image that comes to mind is some unfinished knotty pine something or other that would look more at home in a hunting lodge than a modern nursery. But then I got an early look at the new offerings from Spot On Square and…just wow.

The lines of the brand new hiya collection are clean and appealing, the wood against polar white works with any decor and every piece is made right here in the US. Plus it makes me feel great knowing not just that the wood is sustainable (choose from birch, bamboo or painted MDF), but also that the whole manufacturing process minimizes chemicals and other nasty stuff you really don’t want to think about when you’re shopping for a newborn.

The crib, dresser, toddler bed (which I totally want) and other pieces in the set are priced even a bit better than other modern nursery design collections. In fact I would have thought the cribs would be double what they are. Plus I really love that Spot on Square isn’t some behemoth company, but the effort of the husband and wife team of Nicole and Bob Springer – Bob just so happening to be an award-winning industrial designer.

I smell another award in his future. –Liz
