I am such a crazy Mo Willems stalker-fan that when I heard I missed meeting him at Toy Fair this year by about 30 seconds I nearly cried. His collection of children’s books are this generation’s Dr. Seuss or Curious George.

Willems’ newest release in the laugh-out-loud funny pigeon series: The Pigeon Wants a Puppy in which our perpetually unfulfilled winged hero uses his charm, humor, and trademark begging to make his latest request. The story isn’t entirely as linear or repetitive as previous books Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late. But kids already familiar with the schtick will have a blast denying the poor bird’s demands right until the hilarious twist at the end.

Note to parents: These books get better for kids the more you’re willing to act them out. Don’t be shy. The pigeon wouldn’t like it.

Congrats to Leah N, who won an autographed copy of The Pigeon Wants a Puppy!
