Pink polkadot tankini from PopinaWaaaay back before I had kids, I could get away with wearing any old cute little swimsuit found at my local boutique. But now the thin layer of spandex accompanied by teeny tiny straps just doesn’t cut it anymore, so I often turn to a couple of our secret swimwear sources each Summer.

Popina Swim has just added a few new vintage-inspired items that give moms a little extra help where they need it. The tops and bottoms are sold separately, which is awesome. Bottoms range from a retro hipster to a high waisted boy short which isn’t for everyone of course, but it is great for moms
like me who spend most of the pool time chasing after the little kids
and need a little extra guaranteed coverage in the belly and bottom area.

If you go for more coverage, stick with prints like solids and fun red and white polkadots because some of the louder prints can get a little mom-ish if you don’t have a yoga body. (Yet. Of course.) The bikinis look pretty great in every print.

Another great find are the bra-sized separates from Aerin Rose. I particularly like the Safari Tankini Top which makes excellent use of the underwire concept. Unlike some tankini tops I’ve tried, this one is actually a bit longer, so you won’t be tugging on it all day long or worry that you might accidentally pop out. They’ve even got moms-to-be covered with their maternity swimsuits.

While these suits aren’t quite cheap, they’re not high-end department store prices either. Although personally, I’m hard-pressed to put a price on being comfortable and looking fabulous in the water, especially when you don’t have the Angelina Jolie postpartum bod. -Kristen
