The Cool Mom Picks bag of the year turns diaper bag

Both Liz and I espoused the greatness of Crystalyn Kae’s Soiree bag – so much so that it was our pick for Cool Mom Picks Bag of the Year in 2008. So when we found out that she made a few changes to her original design to turn it into a diaper bag, well we just had to share. It’s still the same slouchy, stylish and versatile bag we love, with soft vegan leather and vintage fabric kick pleats. But at the request of a loyal fan and mom-to-be, the designer has added a slew of handy pockets and...

Potty Animal

I am not a germaphobe at all. I’ve gotten through the great NYC Swine Flu Debacle of 2009 without much more than a hand washing, and I have yet to hear one story of one person getting any illness whatsoever from a public toilet seat. That said, I know that having a kid can do wacky things to a parent’s imagination, so I do understand the urge to lay down the seat covers for the children in public restrooms. If that’s you, you’re going to want to stock up on CootieGuards, which are made to cover a toilet seat...

Let’s talk baby eczema, shall we?

Baby eczema = not the most exciting of all the things a new mom gets to learn about. Having a daughter with moderate eczema myself, I get it. I know how carefully we have to pick out bath soap, shampoo, and body lotion, and that even though we’ve tried a lot of natural and organic products, not all of them take care of those scaly patches or work with her extremely sensitive skin. Since discovering Exederm, I’ve got at least one less thing to worry about. These baby products are made from extremely mild ingredients and contain no irritants,...

Brooklyn Junior – Onesies for summer babies in any city

As the weather starts to really heat up, I’m inclined to just leave my youngest daughter in a onesie and call it a day. But the bright, adorable hot weather onesies from Brooklyn Junior have a little something extra that doesn’t make it seem like I’m just too lazy to get her dressed. Made from 100% soft pima cotton, these cute one-pieces have a pleated bodice and a ruffle leg detail that make them a little fancier and way more stylish than your average baby snapsuit. And with the snap shoulders, you don’t have to deal with pulling it...

The more dust bunnies, the better. For a change.

I love the idea of a growth chart, but I’d never found any that appealed to my decor sensibilities, which are admittedly a bit quirky. Then I got a peek at the Dust Bunnies height chart from UK graphic wall art shop Spin Collective, which is actually a wall decal. I laugh every time I see those wide-eyed, spindly-legged dust bunnies teetering on top of each other. The measurements are in meters, but I figure that will help my kids learn the metric system.  Unique, hilarious, and educational – plus measuring my kids’ growth in terms of dust bunnies...

Bloomers are back, baby

I’ve already espoused a bunch of fabulous bloomers this season, mostly due to their versatility and all-around cute factor, and our latest find, the adorable one-of-a-kind “Fortune Cookie” Shorties from Handmade Charlotte, make a pretty awesome style statement. Mom of five and designer Rachel Faucett has an incredible eye for contrasting fabrics, meaning bloomers aren’t just great for covering up diapers and underwear beneath dresses, but great as a shorts alternative for babies. Simply pair them with a cute little top or t-shirt instead and you’ve got a fantastic summer play outfit. Don’t forget to leave those cute toes...

Design for Children. And of course, their drooling parents.

You know who you are, you design-crazy parents: You scour flea markets looking for vintage picture books to turn into nursery art, you spent more time picking paint colors than pediatricians, and your greatest dream is to discover some lost Eames crib prototype on a street corner somewhere. For you–and me–there is Play All Day: Design for Children. My first thought as I flipped through this wonderful coffee table book was that I should proactively shred all of my credit cards before I start tracking down every single item in the 240 page volume. The authors share our own...
