Vintage-inspired girls' sundressI’ve always adored the one-of-a-kind handmade designs from Baby Bean Vintage Daywear, which really let a little girl be a little girl. Albeit a spectacularly dressed one. Talented designer Christine Visneau (also the editor of the wonderful Small Magazine) has created a new spring/summer line that’s just exquisite — click over and get ready to wipe the drool off your screen.

The children’s playsuit is like the sweet
rompers I used to wear as a kid, and if I still had a baby girl, I’d be putting her in that tank and bloomer set every day this summer.  Older girls score here too with innocent crochet-embelished dresses and shoulder tie sundresses in flighty florals that are a very welcome 1970s flashback. If you’re going to parade the kids around somewhere special on Mother’s Day, these should fit the bill.

girl's playsuitNow I have seen a lot (a lot) of children’s clothing repurposed from vintage fabrics or inspired by vintage designs and too many of them look like an amateur craft experiment, some sort of over-the-top ruffly prairie-skirt-meets-sequin-pageantwear-gone-awry. I can assure you that every detail in these clothes is tasteful and perfect, from the subtle trim peeking out from the bottom hems, to the choice of soft, pretty cotton fabrics.

Let’s just say bonus points for proper use of rikrak. –Liz
