Forget the cute baby bloomers, mamas. It looks like diapers are this year’s fashion statement, with the Huggies denim diapers introduction recently, and now, Pampers’ stylish new entry: Designs from none other than fashion guru and mom Cynthia Rowley.
These designer diapers are definitely a nice change for those of us who die a little knowing we have few options besides the licensed cartoon characters on our children’s bums. The
new line of 11 fashion forward patterns will feature everything
from cool madras prints to preppy plaids, plus a slew of other colorful
designs for boys and girls, all of which will be available for purchase
at Target later this month.
Can I just say, it’s about freaking time?
Aside from the fun style bump that plain old Pampers are getting, I
think half the fun will be your ability to say It’s a Cynthia Rowley when people ask who your kiddo is wearing. Just uh, don’t forget — they’re still diapers. Put some pants on over them when you go out to the supermarket, okay? -Kristen

This kinds of bums me out. These diapers cost a premium of $6 a box. If you can afford that, shouldn’t you at least spend it on biodegradable diapers or some of the adorable washable/cloth brands?
A big designer BOO to you, Cynthia Rowley! You missed an opportunity to use your design skills for a much better use.
I think cloth diapers are cuter, and they are MUCH more environmentally friendly. They are also staggeringly more economical, and more parents are using them. No doubt Huggies implemented these diapers as a marketing strategy, as cloth has had the monopoly on cute for quite some time now. Since so many more families are using cloth, it seems big disposable is finally seeing cloth as a worthy competitor. Yes, these are cuter than your average disposable, but after using cloth, all disposables look like “fake clothes” to me now.
i kind of think that this just really sucks. i mean, if you want super-cute diapers go for cloth! if you don’t have a washer and dryer its pretty hard. i get that, but if you have a washer and dryer – do it! its so much easier than you think, safer for your baby and the world that you baby is going to live in and sooooooo cute!
One of the great parts of cloth diapering was avoiding the characters. Now everyone can have that choice!
At Cool Mom Picks, we’re all for supporting parents in the various choices that they make for their children, including cloth diapering (so many brand we love and have featured!). Also including disposable diapering. Parenting is hard enough without condemning one another for our choices, don’t you think?
It’s also important to note that many studies have concluded that disposable diapers have the same environmental impact as cloth diapers when you take into account laundering. Here’s one from London’s Environment Agency.

While there are certainly more eco-friendly choices than Pampers, for those Pampers fans, we’re just thrilled that their children don’t have to be now indoctrinated into Disney Princesses or Sesame Street characters through their diapers.
I sort of wish they’d thought of this oh say eight years ago. I think it’s a great idea.
Wondering if they will come in all size diapers or just 1 and 2’s.
I am having another baby in November, and I am going to strongly advocate for cloth diapering this time (at home — my daycare won’t have it).
That being said, I often looked to “off” brands, such as Luvs and the Costco cases for diapering needs in the past. They were cheaper, by far, than Pampers or Huggies. I think Luvs had Blues Clues, but the Costco brand was character free.
Target diapers (Up and Up) are cheap, really great quality, and adorable, non-commercial design (cute blue and green dots). I recently switched to them after being a long-time Pampers mom and haven’t looked back.
I’m pretty sure the Huggies Denim and these new Pampers prints are just a lame attempt to compete with the new, modern, pretty and funky cloth diaper covers.
We use cloth and love it. Its just better in so many ways. Besides, my son breaks out in angry rashes that last weeks after only a few minutes in a disposable, so I don’t have much choice.
But I do think fancier prints shouldn’t cost more, given that they pay fees to put disney or winny the poo or whatever on the diapers anyway – it cant cost much more to cover a designer. And the huggies denim should actually cost less. So not only are they trying to compete with cloth, but they are making disposables even more expensive. Not sure how they expect that to work out…
Also, “the best you’ll ever look pooping your pants”? REALLY?
red pen mama- Actually, Huggies Snug ‘n Dry is *cheaper* than Costco’s brand that’s supposedly manufactured by Huggies! Sorry, y’all, but that talk of throwaway diapers being equally eco-friendly? That’s a bunch of hooey, and I think everyone knows it.
You know, I choose not to use cloth diapers. I understand the money savings, the environmental impact, etc – arguments for using cloth. But as a new mom it was one less thing I had to learn and study and worry about. I knew how to use disposable and they worked for my mom – so I went with it. I don’t regret it for a minute.
I’m excited about these Pampers because I don’t like the cartoon characters. And i am very glad that Cool Mom Picks supports the choices we all make.

I would rather let Pampers spend their money on advertising than see them on CMP. I don’t like bashing moms for not using cloth, but they can find this info in plenty of places since P&G has so much money to spend on ads.
Since CMP features so many eco friendly toys and clothes it is disappointing to see a landfill clogger promoted.
And the “studies” that say cloth is the same as disposables are flawed. Anyone who argues that is only trying to fool themselves.
@red pen mama Luv is actually owned by the same company as Pampers. By buying them it isn’t going for the “little” guy.
I’m glad you provided an article about cloth diapers providing as much of an environmental impact as disposable diapers through the laundering. We’ve researched all our options and found the same info. Since disposables are so much easier, that’s what we’ve chosen. We are diaper snobs, and only use Pampers. We noticed that our kids NEVER get diaper rash when we consistently use Pampers. The second we switch to a cheaper brand, diaper rash begins, as soon as we switch back to Pampers, diaper rash is gone in less than a day. I’m not sure what Pampers does to help with this, but it’s worth the extra money for our kids to have healthy hineys!!
This is simply a cute idea and much appreciated by some of us heathens that dare to use disposable. I’m pretty sure this wasn’t a post about cloth diapers or the “evils” of disposable. Just another helpful insight from CMP. And as Lauren (see above) so correctly stated: “I respect your decision to use cloth- please respect my decision not to!”
I think it’s interesting to suggest everyone respect each other’s diapering choices after an article that seems to look down (however slightly) on mamas who might end up at the grocery store with their kid in a diaper. I thought this was why cloth diapers are cute and BabyLegs were invented, and why those companies are now making designer diapers.

GREAT idea but too bad the cute designs are on Pampers. Their new diapers are the worst. TARGET diapers ROCK and are $14 for 85 diapers (thereabouts.) You can’t beat that price…and with green & blue large dots, they’re pretty darn cute. I’ll stick with my Tar-jay for now…you big spenders can have the Rowley.
