Soft and stylish wide baby shoes? Reader Q&A

My 7 month old is an insanely adorable bundle of energy. I recently discovered, much to my dismay, that she also inherited my crazy wide feet. Thinking ahead, I’ve been trying to find some decent shoes for her. I’ve searched high and low, but can’t find wide-width, soft-soled shoes anywhere. Any ideas where to look? -Laree

Some of the soft-soled “slipper”-type shoes, like Robeez, are cut wider than other shoes and are also very easy on the feet. How cute is this reversible Early Bird/Night Owl style? Let’s just hope she doesn’t take those words to heart!

The zipper closure will make it easy to get a chubby little foot in and out (those laces are just decorative). While not made in “wide widths”, we think if you talk to them about your daughter’s foot measurements, they’ll be able to help you find a style that is right.

One of my favorites for the kids, Stride Rite has always been consistent with offering wide widths and even extra-wide styles. The SRT Ana shoes have a supportive high back, come in extra wide, and also have a flexible bottom sole, all of which which will come in handy as your daughter starts to stand. And eventually, walk. I was always a fan of PediPed (https://www.pediped.com)for my little guy’s wide feet. We always got tons of compliments on them. I’ve also been successful finding some cute shoes through New Balance. I’m sort of over the limited style of Stride Rite.

My son has his father’s Fred Flintstone feet so I feel your pain.

We had luck with some of the PediPed styles but for winter Mr. Wide-Foot had the baby Ugg Boots. He had the Erin style in Chestnut and they looked adorable with everything – jeans, cords, even sweatpants. Also, he couldn’t pull or kick them off his feet like he could with other shoes we tried. And the best part was that he didn’t need socks!

As he has gotten older, we have had luck with Morgan & Milo sneakers, the classic Keds in wide widths, Keen shoes & sandals, toddler size Ugg Boots and, of course, the ubiquitous Crocs.

So funny! We just had our first shoe fitting this weekend- 4 1/2 extra wide! This is a great resource. We were already in robeez and just bought a pair of saucony’s for our little walker.

My son has wide feet and also a high arch (yea!). We have found Pedipeds are too tight, but See Kai Run are great for him and easy to get on, not to mention super stylish and fun.

We also just got a pair of the unlikely Converse Allstars. They lace down so far that they are forgiving and can be loosened up to fit better than other sneakers. He loves them! The One Fish Two Fish Dr. Suess pair gets compliments everywhere we go!

My son has high insteps so we end up buying wide shoes for him. He’s almost 3, and we need to buy real shoes (not the soft soles for a 7 month old) and I’ve found the best ones are Clarks. They come in both wide and extra wide widths, and provide great support too. They can be pricey, but hold up really well and I think are worth it.
