It’s awfully daunting, standing in the hustle and bustle of a huge bookstore during the holidays and trying to find one book among millions for the bibliophile or budding reader in your life. Luckily, there’s a fabulous new service to help you choose  just the right book–not surprisingly, it’s called Just the Right Book.

This amazing service is the brainchild of the fine folks at Connecticut’s award-winning R.J. Julia Bookstores. You select the age of your lucky recipient, then answer some basic questions, even if all you know is that your niece loves Twilight or your toddler nephew loves trains.

Just the Right Book

Then, using twenty years of bookish matchmaking, Just the Right Book hand selects books and ships them directly to your recipient, whether it’s a one-time packages or gifts that keep on giving all year.

My 4 year-old daughter is a tricky pick, as she loves Transformers as much as ballet. But the Small Kids Collection (5 books + 1 toy) we received was phenomenal. We have strong girl characters, dreaming and dancing dinosaurs, creative and free-thinking princesses, and a poetry anthology for a first taste of e.e. cummings. They even included a new book by one of our favorite authors, Tad Hill. All that, wrapped up in a pretty box with a huge bow and a glittery stuffed lizard.

I’m the kid’s mom and a reading nut, and I honestly couldn’t have chosen better myself.

This is definitely a gifty service; not the way to find the cheapest price on the latest Diego-themed comic series. If you’re looking for the care and creativity of an indie expert with the convenience of an online shop–plus a mega-dose of mind reading– this is the best gift I can possibly imagine. Getting a book a month would have been my top present ever when I was…well, any age at all. Including now. –Delilah
