What’s up, doc? Baby gifts for the Year of the Rabbit.

Colette Kids Year of the RabbitToday starts the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac, and after last year’s “Year of the Tiger”, I’m more than ready to settle down with something a little more cuddly and sweet. This means our kids will roar less, right?

To commemorate the start of the year 4709, I’ve dug up a bunch of adorable Chinese New Year gifts for the little bunny in your life — or any that may hop your way before the year is done. -Christina

Gotta love the little buck teeth on Colette Kids’ Beta Bunny Onesie (at top), and the bright red color which will look great on boys and girls. And since my babies weren’t born furry, we’d go with the long sleeved version for these colder months, though there are short sleeves available for those warmer climates.

chinese zodiac wall art

I have long coveted Tree by Kerri Lee’s Chinese zodiac Birth Year Boxes which are such a pretty keepsake for a new boy or girl. And now she has created new personalized Chinese zodiac wall Art exclusively for Uncommon Goods, and I am seriously in love. Her simply sweet illustration of a rabbit with room for a custom name and birth date is cleverly placed next to a keepsake memory board. So much better than shoving all those little hold-on-to-forever tokens in a shoebox.

Beehive Rabbit baby spoon and fork set in pewter

The baby who is born with a pewter spoon (and spork!) in his mouth from Beehive Kitchenware is a lucky baby indeed. Cute, but not cutesy, little bunnies hang out on the handles, and both pieces are engraved with “2011″, making this a fabulous new-baby gift. And, even better, they are really useable and safe with food, so no keeping these out of reach and untouched.

Dahlia Press

Not just another rabbit picture, this muted letterpress framed Year of the Rabbit Print from Dahlia Press Shop tells more about the meaning behind this animal in the Chinese zodiac. I like that they’ve even thought to print the rabbit illustration in green, the color for the 2011 new year. The quiet palette keeps the many words from overpowering the piece and I appreciate that only the positive traits are listed here.

rabbit baby book

The popular handcrafted baby book from design studio Binth has been a favorite of modern moms for some time now, but the rabbit design on the cover has never been more appropriate as it is in 2011. It’s now available in a sophisticated brown, as an alternative to the original lime.

Year of the Rabbit

The author/illustrator team of Oliver Chin and Justin Roth, who have delighted us with their zodiac books and pirate stories, are back with another story based on the animals of the Chinese zodiac. The Year of the Rabbit is not first-baby-book reading, but it will still look cute on the nursery bookshelf. Plus, the story about a little boy and a bunny will still be a fun read when that baby is old enough to be all ears at story time. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Recently received a Beehive Kitchenware spoon for my daughter (one with a chick on it). She LOVES it. It has a great weight and nice shape for a little one. Wonderful gift!

What about rabbits that were born in Jan.2012. I like those spoons but they have 2011 engraved on them. The Chinese New Year just started yesterday or day before, I believe.

I would convo the artist via the Etsy shop and see if it’s possible to get one with a 2012. Good luck!

I wrote to the artist at Beehive Kitchenware and heard this response:
    Hi Christina,
We won’t be making these spoons with 2012 on the back, but we are going to continue to make them without a year on the back. Hopefully we will have those available in a few weeks.

    —Hope this helps!
