The Giving Effect - find charities near youEvery year at about this time, I start digging out my kids’ closets, then the other closets, and before I know it, I’m on a veritable sort-and-chuck rampage. When the dust settles, I usually have an entire carload of garbage bags ready to go to charity.

Usually I drop off at the big national charity that’s got a donation dumpster right down the road.

But. I don’t ever do cash charity donations to “whatever’s closest,” so why am I doing that with my stuff?

Probably because–until now–I didn’t know about The Giving Effect. Just  input your zip code on the site and filter needy organizations by distance,
cause, or even what it is I have available to donate.

Do you suppose I
knew that the local animal rescue where we got our beloved dog will
accept donations of antiques? I did not. (I assume they resell for the
money, but still. Now I have another super-easy way to support them.)

If
you’re about to succumb to the spring cleaning bug, check it out. It’s a
simple way to make sure your unwanted stuff ends up supporting the
causes that matter to you. -Mir
