Bracelets for a cause. Is there any better kind?

Wanderlust Cambodia resin banglesAs the heavy spending season is upon me, I’ve made a point to be more mindful of what I purchase for myself. But given my penchant for bags and accessories, it’s a little more challenging than I thought.

However, one way I’ve offset (okay, rationalized) my obsession is purchasing jewelry that gives back. Here are three options I recently discovered thanks to my MilkShake subscription.

1. Wanderlust

The brain child of fashion guru Elizabeth
Kiester, the Wanderlust online shop (with two storefronts as well)
offers beautiful clothes, accessories, and home goods made by artisans
in Cambodia. Not only do they earn a fair wage, but they’re able to work
from home, which allows them to stay with their children and families
while they support them. I purchased a couple of the simple matte resin bangles (pictured left) now on sale for just $3.99 each.

2. Nicole Miller Textile Bangles

Nicole Miller Indego Africa bracelets

Famed designer Nicole Miller has teamed up with Indego Africa to produce these lovely fabric-wrapped bangle bracelets
made by women in the Cocoki co-op in Rwanda. The bright, bold African
fabrics are on trend right now, though I’m pretty sure supporting a good
cause is always in style. And at $25 for a set of 3, you’re not
breaking the bank.

3. Same Sky

Same Sky crocheted glass bead bracelet

If you’re looking for something a little more upscale, then look now further than the gorgeous hand crocheted glass bead bracelets
from Same Sky. Handmade by genocide survivors in Rwanda and HIV+ women
in Zambia, your purchase goes to supporting their communities and paying
their fair wage, which is 10 times what the average woman makes. I’ve
loving the seed bead bracelets, which fit a little better with my lifestyle and my budget, also known as “chasing after and feeding four kids.”
