Fighting breast cancer with a new color: blue

There’s a lot of pink out there in October, and that’s a great thing. We applaud any effort to fight breast cancer by spreading awareness or raising donations for research and support. Still, if pink’s not your color, we’d like to introduce you to a breast cancer initiative from Lee Jeans that’s really intrigued us because it’s not about what you buy. It’s about what you give. Lee’s National Denim Day has raised over 83 million dollars since its inception in 1996. That’s some number. We’re as skeptical as anyone about pinkwashing, but this isn’t about buying jeans which...

A baby book for the modern mom

More than 10 years ago, author/illustrator Sara Midda first published a lovely baby book as an alternative to those structured, rigid baby books with all those intimidating lines. (You know the ones.) Only for some reason, I just discovered it. Good thing, because today it’s just as relevant as ever.  Simply titled Baby Book, the first thing you’ll notice is the loose, fun watercolor illustrations that remind me a bit of the wonderful R.O. Blechman. Next you’ll be struck by some subtly cheeky prompts that put you at ease right away. Like, “don’t worry if you don’t hand-calligraph every...

Britax makes that car seat to stroller dance so much easier

I think having a baby would be so much easier if the getting from point A to point B wasn’t such a pain the butt. In my family, we’ve tried pretty much all of the travel systems that are supposed to make life simpler; let’s just say that most of those stroller/car seat combos never really live up to their promises and often make things even more difficult. But then I discovered the new ultra-lightweight, ridiculously easy travel system from Britax, I actually started leaving my 10 block radius with baby in tow. The Britax B-AGILE Stroller manages to...

All hail the ponytail

Whether I’m ready or not, it’s officially fall, and the hats and scarves are starting to fill the stores, as I needed another reminder that cold weather is on its way. 75 ways to eat pancakes

I love pancakes. They are soft, sweet, and super fun. Oh, and my kids love them too. So I love that Jim Belosic has captured pancake pride so beautifully with a new book, all about pancakes, that could turn you into the favorite parent on the block. The book OMG Pancakes: 75 Cool Creations Your Kids Will Love to Eat is based on a site that we are big fans of, jimspancakes.com. For those of you not familiar, Jim got into creative pancake production as a way to gain some “cool cred” with his own daughter, Allie.  Allie thinks...

In Vest

The cutest little girl in my daughter’s class always wears this fuzzy vest to school, and I’m trying to use it to convince my daughter to ditch her own awful one that a relative gave her years ago and upgrade to a new one. (Those fuchsia hearts kinda kill me.) I am loving the look of this puffer vest from AE 77 Kids, with a removable faux fur hood. It’s lined, so it’s great for those early fall days on its own, or under a heavier coat when things get arctic around here. Also? No pink, and no hearts....

Building a better sippy cup

I don’t remember having trouble learning how to use a straw but, then again, I’m about four decades past that stage in life. It was my kids who made me realize that “straw use” was going to be another one of those odd little skills I was going to have to teach them, along with using a napkin instead of their shirt. For those of you just entering this stage of development, check out this neat cup which helps make the transition from sippy cup to straw-in-cup even easier. The new Lollacup infant/toddler cup features a flexible weighted straw...
