Wow what a fun theme for a kid’s birthday, especially in the summer. Here are some ideas for your daughter’s party. Hope they help!

1. INVITATIONS
Set the tone for the party from the start with these free printable seed packet party invitations that can even hold a few seeds inside. (from Tom Kat Studio for PBK) [Edited to add: these are no longer available]

Garden party ideas: butterfly party decorations

2. DECOR
I love the pretty color scheme of this first birthday party seen at Hostess With the Mostess, which features inexpensive (and easy!) touches like lollipop butterflies and hand-cut butterflies adorning the walls. Or grab a butterfly paper punch and save yourself all that cutting time.

3. FOOD
A garden-themed birthday party pretty much demands you serve fresh fruits and vegetables, even if you didn’t grow them yourself. Get your young guests interested in eating them when you serve crudite creatively, as in this garden party idea from Kelly Allison Photography. Love the little plant tags that help identify the treats on the table.

Garden party ideas: dirt cupcakes

4. CAKE
Skip the fancy cupcake decorating with this easy, but perfectly themed, dirt cupcake recipe (also seen above, from Week of Menus.) With a paper-punched butterfly as a cupcake topper plus a gummy worm, you could even transform store-bought cupcakes in just a few steps.

Garden party ideas: nature scavenger hunt

5. CRAFTS AND ACTIVITIES
Keep the little gardeners busy with fun gardening-themed activities besides planting seeds in a cup.  Have a bean bag toss using flowerpots, let kids paint rocks for their home gardens, or set up a colorful nature scavenger hunt.

Garden party ideas: PaperNook favor bag

6. GOODIE BAGS
Send your guests home with one of PaperNook’s personalized favor bags adorned with butterflies and stuffed with a few treats. [Edited to add: these are no longer available]

If you’re staying away from candy, think about items like these colorful vegetable shaped crayons I found on Etsy [Edited to add: these are no longer available], plus kid-friendly seed packs from In the Koop with names like Dinosaur Kale. A Tickle-Me-Plant kit is also pretty cool, and kids just love them.

You can also opt for accessories like floral sunglasses for kids, available from My First Shades, or personalized beaded flower bracelet that you can order inexpensively or if you’re up for it — make yourself.

Happy party planning!
