At this time next week, I’ll be traveling through Ethiopia with the wonderful humanitarian organization ONE. Yes, I’m excited. Yes, I’m nervous. No, Bono won’t be there that I know of. And yes, you will be hearing more about it. But when I got my informational travel packet from the team at ONE this week, I was thrilled to find a surprise: a small, chic gift that does a whole lot of good. I thought you’d want to know about it too.
The stunning scarf from fashionABLE absolutely melted me. Not just because it’s beautiful, which it is, but because of the hang tag on which I found a note from the artist who made it. She completes the line in her own handwriting: BECAUSE OF YOU I AM ABLE TO…see my son, Abel, grow in character. Thank you, Etanesh.
Then I clicked over to read Etanesh’s story and…wow. Tears.
The collection of scarves are well priced considering the good that they’re doing, and the styles are beautiful. Plus it’s truly meaningful and lovely to put a name and a face to something you’re wearing. I imagine Etanesh sitting there in her studio, taking such care in her work, and
trying to think to the future.
What an amazing opportunity to talk to my girls about fashionABLE and why I’m so dedicated to supporting companies like this.
Once I managed to swipe my new scarf away from my daughter who was wearing it like a princess cape, I put it right into my suitcase so I wouldn’t forget to pack it next week. I think it will come in handy in all sorts of ways. And I think it will comfort me in more ways than one. –Liz

Great post about the fashionABLE scarves. I’m on the #ONEMoms trip too (coming from the UK, where we’re called #ONEMums). The tags from the makers of the scarves really help you understand that the project helps the communities that produce them.

But, I’m having issues viewing the website – I can’t get the images of the scarves to load and have tried several different browsers.
