A baby bib cute enough to wear out of the high chair

The thing about bibs is that they are made to get dirty. So I’ve never really cared much about what they look like. But I just discovered a collection of bibs that blends practical and chic. The stylish baby bibs from Ah Goo Baby come with wrap around collars (great for not getting baby’s hair caught in the closure!) and are made in an array of very cool patterns. I love the pop-art poppy (pictured) as well as the zoo frenzy featuring a bunch of animals in a, well, frenzy-like pattern. Everything we’ve ever seen from this brand is...

Shiver me slumbers!

Avast, me hearties and shiver me slumbers! This organic pirate bedding is the next best thing to being rocked to sleep in the crow’s nest. And even better, you can’t get seasick! Those scurvy dogs at The Land of Nod are in cahoots with Winter Water Factory to bring you A Pirate’s Bedding for Me, which is one of the most stylish sets of pirate bedding for kids we’ve ever seen. From sheet to duvets to shams, yarr setting sail in 200 thread count, machine washable, organic cotton. We love the cool blue and the subtle rolling waves, which...

Hail to the chiefs

Today is a great day to spend a few moments talking to the kids about our U.S. presidents and their important contributions to society. But with these cool presidential blocks, you can have that conversation all the way to Election Day and beyond. Amazingly detailed, colorfully patriotic, and even educational, Uncle Goose’s fine Presidential Blocks are a great edu-toy and keepsake for kids way too young to vote. The 45 blocks include all 44 U.S. presidents, with one block holding the “Oath of Office”, so your future politico can get started memorizing that early. Older kids can test their...

5 tech picks you won’t want to miss this week

We totally <3 you, and that’s why we’ve rounded up some of our favorite tech picks from this past week, in case you missed them while sending Lovestagrams and eating candy hearts that read “Email Me”, of course.  1. If you’re sick of waiting for your camera to focus before snapping a blurry pic of a child’s elbow or a cat’s ear, you’re going to dig this amazing new camera that shoots first and focuses later. 2. Our favorite e-cards are free, hilarious, and available year-round, not just for Valentine’s Day. Oh, and they sometimes involve Ryan Gosling in...

Downton Abbey’s Dowager Countess puts the cross in cross-stitch

I want to live at Downton Abbey. I want a Mrs. Patmore to cook dinner and a fleet of Annas to clean up and a closet of gorgeous, beaded dresses.  Unless my husband ends up being a long-lost heir, I doubt all that’s in the cards. But at least I can have this adorable cross stitch of one of my favorite characters. We’re in love with Downton Abbey, and I’m a huge fan of the Dowager Countess of Grantham, played with panache by Dame Maggie Smith. Every week, she manages to steal the show with a perfectly proper put-down,...

Baby baths get plush. (Yes, plush.)

Bath time in our house is no easy feat. There’s a lot of wriggling and crying–from both baby and parents. I think partly it has to do with the fact that our plastic bathtub is not the comfiest of landing spots for little tushies. To remedy that, I’ve found really interesting new option. The plush, flower-shaped bath seat insert from Blooming Bath is like nothing I’ve ever seen. It provides a soft, safe place for babies to rest their little bottoms during cleaning time–easier than bathing a newborn in a plastic bathtub that’s five times bigger than her body....

These boots are made for empowering

I’ve had our eye on Atlanta-based artisan Jessica Swift ever since I discovered her gorgeous reversible ceramic necklace at the Indie Craft Experience. She’s since expanded with a fabulous line of cool iPhone cases, and now, these adorable rain boots that, along with this warm patch of weather, have me wishing for spring. Her pretty new line of rain boots feature her beautiful art work on the outside along with a sweet, surprise message on the inside. The Carmindy boots (pictured) say “You are perfect just the way you are” and the bold, bright Ennika style have “This is...

Appaman gets me excited for warmer weather. Like, swimming pool warmer.

While we’ve had baby shower gifts on the brain this week, we haven’t forgotten our bigger kids–and neither has one of our favorite brands, Appaman, which just launched their hot new spring/summer line. Fans of the ’80s? You’re going to like this one. Crank up the Donna Summer, dim all the lights sweet darlin’, and check out the cuteness. I’m now officially counting the days til snow is no longer a possibility, since getting a look at the new Appaman clothes on preorder at Psychobaby for spring/summer. Girls really score this season with a great selection of bright, candy-colored...

Getting kids excited about gardening

I envy those people (you know who you are!) who pick fresh tomatoes from their garden before making a bruschetta with ingredients all grown in their backyard. Believe me, I have tried to be one of these people. But, I was born without a green thumb. This has led me to unbelievably friendly relationships with my local farmers and Farmer’s Markets. But this fabulously cool idea allows me to have my cake–or really, kale salad–and eat it too, all while getting the kids involved. In the Koop packages varieties of seeds in an egg carton, all equally intriguing and...

Dan Zanes honors Black History Month with music

We have always loved the versatility of Dan Zanes’ music and the multicultural sound of so many of his songs, whether they’re in his collaborations with the children of South Africa’s Agape Orphanage in singing Zulu folk songs, or in a duet with newcomer Shine (of Shine and the Moonbeams) to belt out a little soul in Wake Up Baby!  So while he has the mic this weekend on his Sirius XM radio show, he’s going to use it to expose our kids–and many of us adults–to a wide range of music created and sung by black musicians and singers....
