Print your own Super Bowl championship shirts, right from home

No matter what the outcome of today’s game (go New England!), I hope my kids see a game that reflects the best in sportsmanship (beat the Giants!) and a commitment to trying really hard (whoo! Tom Brady!). Oh, and I may care a little bit about who wins. Which is why I’ve got my eye on a super-cute printable, iron-on image that my kids could wear with pride if (when?) their team wins the big game. And, yeah, there’s one for that other team too. Love Party Printables has a whole roster of cartoon kids holding a little banner for...

The end of hat head

After taking the time to blow dry my mane, the last thing I want to do is pull on a claustrophobic thick wool hat and destroy all my hard work. So what? Just suffer the cold? Deal with the hat head?  Etsy artist Cheryl Bryan has my answer.  We just discovered these totally sweet and rather pretty knit headbands from 4th Generation Designs. Cheryl’s handmade cozy creations will keep you warm, looking lovely and won’t leave you with a flat top. Plus, I have to admit, the crochet flower accent is mighty cute. It’s like saying “Yes, it’s bitter...

A sleepsack with your baby’s name on it. Literally.

I had my trusty HALO sleepsacks to thank for getting me a few nights of sleep when blankets weren’t the safest option for my little roly poly babes. So how cool to hear about a new collaboration between HALO and Pottery Barn Kids that’s surprisingly budget friendly. The new Chamois Dot HALO SleepSacks feature exactly what I love: soft, warm fabrics, no sleeves (so babies don’t overheat) and a double zipper for easy diaper changes. And I love that you can have a name embroidered on them, making them a great baby gift. Best of all, at just under...

New glass baby food containers make it easy to wean off the plastic

I admit to using plastic food containers for everything from storing leftovers to housing fresh made baby food. Yes, I cringe every time I put them in the dishwasher and I do find it a pain in the rear to take the extra step of pouring the contents in a porcelain bowl to microwave the food. But it’s not easy finding glass containers that snap shut as easily as the plastic ones. Hooray for Wean Green (gotta love the name!), an eco-friendly line of tempered glass food containers with BPA-free, totally secure, and very pretty lids. What I love most about...

Warthogs need love too, ya know.

I’ve seen many a hooded towel in my parenting tenure, but none quite like the new ones from 3 sprouts, which always has a way of ensuring equal rights for all animals when it comes to toddler bathtime. Yep, that’s a warthog hooded towel. I’m completely smitten with his adorable nose and intimidating tusks. Made from 100% cotton, inside and out, I bet he’d make a welcome addition to any bathroom towel rack. And you moms will appreciate the smart little loop to making hanging up a cinch. And really, what a perfect way to feed into your little...

Sweet, but not-sugary, Valentines gifts for under $20

When it comes to giving Valentines gifts, I’ll refrain from saying that my kids are “sweet enough already.” But, let’s face it: they’ll be bombarded with candy hearts, lollipops and other sweets on the 14th. My plan is to find some non-sweet treats they’ll love for a lot longer than that pink lollipop. Here are some of my favorite choices for kids of all ages. –Christina The Woodland Love wooden blocks from Tiny Giraffe Shop come packaged in a little drawstring bag ready to give to your Valentine. The illustrations are so sweet, they’d be perfect on top of...

New spring shoes from See Kai Run – some girls get all the luck

While we’re all swooning over bright colorful handbags making their way into our closets of late, kids’ shoes are definitely on the same path. And the new spring line from CMP favorite See Kai Run, is featuring what might be one of my favorite girls collections from them yet, loaded with stylish bursts of color. The Natalia shoes for girls (above) just make me happy to look at them, with that aqua upper and the bright poppy accent. Like my girls wouldn’t go totally batty for those. Plus they’ve got that durable construction and flexible rubber, non-slip sole that...

Valentine’s Day cards for kids: 8 of our very favorites when you don’t have time to make them

As much as I love incredibly crafty Valentine’s cards for kids, I know my limits in time and ability, especially when I need about twenty cards for each of three kids. And yet, I can’t quite bring myself to snag those boxes prepackaged licensed-character cards that feel so sponsored. Fortunately, somewhere in between those convenient drugstore cards and the ten-step DIY cards, there are loads of great indie Valentine’s card options for the classroom. I’ve rounded up a whole bunch of them right here. –Christina So happy to see Minted’s unique designs, luxurious paper stock and gorgeous printing translated...

Designer bags without the designer labels

I was lucky enough to receive an amazing cross body bag for Christmas last year and while at first I wasn’t sure if this giganti-bag addict would be able to pull it off, I stand corrected. It’s now my go-to bag for day and night. So it’s no surprise that I’m on the hunt for more, including this one that I’m hoping my valentine will surprise me with in a couple of weeks. Meet Stella, the cross-body (or over-the-shoulder) bag with attitude. It’s part of an amazing new collection from leoluca that I’m swooning over. Made from 100% black...

A bicycle built for a little one.

My 5-year old son’s now security blanket is a handmade one we featured here on Cool Mom Picks awhile back. Cool how that happens. So when I saw these beautiful baby blankets at Dandelion Baby, I imagined that they could easily become a favorite for one of your lucky kiddos too. Handmade to order by mom-of-3 Nicole Brown, these lovely blankets combine two of my favorite fabrics: modern cotton prints and a soft plush underside. I’m loving the gender-neutral styles, like the hip bicycle print blanket (pictured), but I’m also taken by the sweet lime giraffes. Admittedly I’m not...

Wood you still love me tomorrow?

We’ve seen a ton of heart jewelry leading up to Valentine’s Day, but the one that’s stolen my heart isn’t flashy, blingy, or loaded with diamonds. In fact, it isn’t even shiny. I discovered designer Andrea Panico’s Pico Designs at the gift show this week and fell in love with her modern, architecturally-inspired handmade jewelry–but perhaps none more than this laser-cut wooden heart necklace. Made out of cherry wood and dangling from a gold-fill chain, it hangs just below the collarbone.  I think it will look cool even when the paper valentines are long tucked away in a shoebox. Find the...

Clever Super Bowl dessert ideas. Because one cannot live on nachos alone.

We are so excited to welcome Stacie of One Hungry Mama to the Cool Mom Picks team! We’ve admired her common sense, approachable, clever posts about food and cooking for ages now. This is the first of her weekly niblets of food-related coolness every Wednesday–a roundup of Super Bowl sweets that’ll score big with your football fans, big and small. What a week! My first post as part of the Cool Mom team today. Groundhog Day tomorrow. Thank a Mailman Day on Saturday. And we can’t forget the Madonna concert, er, I mean, the Super Bowl on Sunday. If you’re...

Non toxic nails for non toxic kids

I’m so happy to have just discovered another adorably chic new line of non-toxic nail polishes, so I can have some worry-free fun with my nieces when we’re playing salon. Little Bu is a new non-toxic nail polish line from the UK for sophisticated little ladies (and okay, boys who love colorful toenails). We’ve covered natural nail polish before and are so happy there are some great options on the market, but Little Bu stands out by nailing it (literally) in the style department. As in, these are colors I really want to wear, too. I love that the polishes wash...
