There are so many options for decorating your new baby’s nursery walls with gorgeous artwork, from custom posters to colorful growth charts to giant wall decals. And now I’ve just found another amazingly creative option that you have to see to believe.
Marcelle Crosby’s Folded Paper Dresses look like large-scale origami pieces made of folded maps and other cool-looking printed paper. Measuring about 17 inches in length, I would’ve loved to hang the Miss Paris Pink dress in my daughter’s nursery. It would have had me dreaming of crepes and the Louvre during those 3AM nursing sessions.
If you’re attending a baby shower for a good friend or relative who has an affinity for Italy or London or New York, one of these keepsakes would make a very lovely gift, guaranteed to get more ooooohs than a Diaper Genie. Keep in mind that each piece is carefully folded by hand and not mass-produced, so the price definitely reflects this attention to detail.
Shipped with the wooden hanger, it’d be easy enough for even lazy-to-decorate me to get this artwork onto the wall. Though if you are a bit more motivated, you could also have the piece framed to protect it from fading over time.
Don’t see the map you want? Send Marcelle a note and she may be able to create the exact dress you’d like. Or check out her colorful Around the World dress made of vintage paper. There’d be plenty of places to dream about while gazing at this dress, and if your babies are as sleepless as mine were, plenty of time to do it. -Christina
