If you are going to pick the perfect time to visit New York City, you could do a lot worse than fall. The family-friendly options here seem endless this time of year. So whether you live in town or you are building an itinerary for your special Saturday visiting the Big Apple, we’d like to suggest adding the MoMA Design Store to your schedule.

Yes, for kids.

Set on the charming Spring Street in Soho, the MoMA store has been a long time shopping favorite of ours. We were extra pleasantly surprised to discover that in addition to the killer goods available, they also have some amazing free programming for kids, most notably their new children’s author events.

Taking place in the newly revamped kids’ section designed to inspire creativity and introduce kids to art, the fall children’s author series features free readings by some of the most in-demand kid focused writers of the moment. What? Free entertainment that encourages reading? Sign us up!

*Next up on Saturday, October 5 is Disney author Bob Shea, author of the oh so popular Unicorn Thinks He’s Pretty Great. Unicorn drawing demonstrations and a “Jelly Bean dance party” will add to the day.

*On Saturday, November 16 it’s Marc Boutavant reading Around the World with Mouk where a bear teaches us about friendship and world travel.

*December 7 brings the talented Robert Sabuda and his pop up adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

All readings run from 11am-12pm, ending just in time to venture out for lunch at Balthazar or Jerry’s. A perfect New York day. –Stephanie M
