Chapped and cracked lips are no fun. First of all, ouch. Secondly? They make your lip gloss and lipstick look terrible. Third of all, they’re no fun to kiss. So in the hopes of a smooth-lipped winter, I’ve been slathering on some great lip balms. I found promising pout savers, and the good news is, one of them is already in your pantry.

Ilia Balmy Nights Lip Exfoliator
This is a potent little stick of lip-sloughing goodness. It’s loaded with teeny granules of organic volcanic stone powder (sounds fancy, I know), shea butter, and sunflower seed oil. It only takes a second to smooth it on and then smear it off with a washcloth at night — and the results are pretty impressive. I can wear my bright and happy pink lip color the next day without a crack in sight.

Reve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm from Nuxe | Cool Mom Picks

Reve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm from Nuxe
This is a hugely popular product; would you believe one sells every 28 seconds?  And it sells like that for good reason. Although it’s a little thick, so you don’t want to put it on under lipstick, this little pot soothes and comforts chapped lips like a champ. I recommend using it at night so you don’t have to worry about gloppiness.

Yes To Lip Balm | Cool Mom Picks

Yes To Blueberry Naturally Smooth Lip Balm
Thanks to Yes To for creating one more awesome product. The genius oval packaging glides expertly around the lips. The formula itself is a lightweight blend of aloe, cocoa, and shea butter with a hint of blueberry flavor thrown in. This one is a keeper for your purse.  I use it all day long and it’s perfect under lipstick.

Olive oil as lip balm | Cool Mom Picks

DIY Lip Balm
Looking for a quick and totally inexpensive lip fix? When you’re in a pinch and need some immediate lip moisture but don’t have balm on hand, don’t lick your lips, which just dries them out more. Instead, run to the kitchen and get a tiny drizzle of olive oil. I love my Trader Joe’s olive oil, but any decent brand will do the trick. Olive oil gives a nice sheen and does actually work to hydrate the lips. Just be careful you don’t get it on your clothes — oil stains are about as inviting as chapped lips.
