The coolest, funkiest nursing tops we’ve ever seen. About time!

My first baby was born in the dead of winter, which basically gave me an excuse to hide my pitiful spit-up stained shirts under a bulky coat. My second baby: summer. I just barely pulled off the shabby tank top look. Um, or maybe I didn’t. Time to start thinking nice nursing tops for the third baby coming in the fall! Mama FeelsGood is a cute online boutique based out of Bristol, England. They create adorable and funky nursing tops I’m already totally crazy about, and it’s not hard to see why, right? The layered look and the hip...

Rock this summer on the radio with Sirius XM’s Kids Place Live

I am a pretty big fan of SiriusXM’s Kids Place Live for many reasons, but mostly because it is hands-down the best media outlet providing today’s family music makers the national exposure they deserve. The station brings the best in kindie rock and all-ages entertainment into the cars and living rooms across the country and save plenty of us parents from a backseat full of bored kids. The summer’s programming on KPL will feature three exclusive new series that are totally worth tuning into. Kids Place Live, if you haven’t yet discovered, is much more than a typical radio...

A new baby blanket with a vintage feel

My sister-in-law is about to give birth to my new niece or nephew in just a couple of weeks. Here’s the problem: she’s a new mom and an event planner. Before Midnight review: Love conquers all. Or mostly all.

Last week, I was treated to a sneak preview of Before Midnight, the newest movie in the popular now-trilogy starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. If you’re like me, you won’t believe it’s been 18 years since they first met in Before Sunrise, then met again in Before Sunset. 18 years, people!    As Hawke, Delpy, and director Richard Linklater discussed at the preview I attended, the hope is that each movie stands on its own, even though I’m hardpressed to find friends who haven’t seen at least one of these come-of-age movies.  Fan or not, if you’re curious...

A kids’ world as cheerful as your kids (or one can hope)

Putting together a nursery or little kid’s room can be a challenge if you’re going for a certain retro-mod Scandinavian rainbow look. I mean, there is nothing out there that fits that exact description. Or wait, maybe there is.   The relaunch of colorful, childlike 70s era German designs from byGraziela designs celebrates every single color in the crayon box, and channels it into kids’ bedding, kids pajamas, German-made dishware, hooded towels, toys and home decor so happy you want to smile. At pots. You’ll be smiling at pots. If you’re the crafty kind, there are even fabrics featuring...

Sewn Natural: handmade girls dresses that can clear away the May showers

I’ve always loved peppering my daughters’ wardrobes with just a few special handmade pieces from indie artists, from Courtney Chu to Ses Petites Mains and Baby Bean. Not only do they freshen up an otherwise ordinary wardrobe of leggings, tunics and tees, I find they are constructed amazingly well. When my two girls are done with them, Kristen’s younger daughters get a care package! I’m so happy to discover Etsy Shop Sewn Natural, which uses classic but contemporary patterns in their handmade girls dresses, brought to life with gorgeous organic fabrics, vintage-inspired prints and textiles from names like Marimekko....

Wooden bowls + color = fabulousness

I have a special place in my heart for wooden bowls. My Eastern European grandmother used to make these beautiful and elaborate green salads and serve them to us in small wooden bowls, so I’ve been looking for bowls that remind me of my sweet Bubbie ever since…to no avail. Until now. Why I didn’t think to look to Etsy is beyond me.   Check out the super funky shop for perfectly sized bowls with just the right pop of color for my salads, or cereal, or giant displays of fresh fruit, for that matter. The artist, an interior design...

A maternity dress you can really live in

It’s pretty well established at this point that we curvy girls are ever grateful for the wrap dress as a wardrobe staple. And now when those curves extend (and extend and extend) to your baby bump, there’s a cool maternity dress that will get you through months of pregnancy and back down again. I really like the Judy maternity wrap dress from Isabella Oliver. The shape is flattering, the blue color will look dazzling on any skin tone, the short sleeves take care of some of our (ahem) problem areas on the upper arms. It’s just the perfect day...

Jewelry perfect for Bat Mitzvah gifts and other special occasions (And no zillion dollar price tags, promise)

Twenty years after my own Bat Mitzvah, the world now caters to the preteen universe in ways it never did. Still, finding the right gift for a young adult’s special occasion can be tricky in a market that usually consists of accessories that are overly mature, overly expensive, or just…uh, not very nice. There are some companies out there that do get it right though, and Rucakids is one of them. Rucakids is a wonderful jewelry line founded by a set of cousins who wanted to create a collection for kids and young adults that really lets their personalities...
