Month: May 2013

The Novogratz family takes us to Brazil. And you’re invited.

The prolific designers and TV faves Bob and Courtney Novogratz are taking their small CB2 home collection to new places. Specifically Brazil. And I want to go.  The new Novogratz Brasil collection for CB2, just launched this month, is such a funy, cheery way to brighten up your/my decidedly North American pad, at the decent prices and quality CB2 is known for. I’m loving pieces like a duo-toned credenza, a swing chair that makes me pine for a deck, and a bright fuschia punched-metal coffee table that might not be so great for homework, but is perfect for a...

Yes, nursing clothes can be fashionable

I’m hoping to nurse this baby of mine after it arrives in the fall. So I am mighty pleased to see that nursing attire has come a long way since the last time I wore it (five years ago). No more zip-up hoodies for me, that’s for sure. I’ve been checking out the selections at Milk Nursingwear and–squeeee!–I am already planning my fall wardrobe around some of the beautiful options they have from dresses to shirts, tank tops and more. And in lieu of using those traditional snap flaps that I always remember fumbling with, Milk Nursingwear has designed...

Straight from the leather markets of Europe to your accessories wardrobe

If you’re thinking about some splurge-y accessories or gifts that you can easily justify for fab craftsmanship, super practicality, and timeless elegance, I may have found just the thing.   I am so happy to have discovered the gorgeous leather goods from YUE, which range from office-ready leather envelopes for papers or thin tablets to naturally tanned backpacks that are ready to hit the road this summer and never ask once, Are we there yet? It’s that easy, no-fuss styling that’s often hard to find outside leather markets in European capitals. Although, yeah, you’re going to pay for that...

This summer an eco deck chair is the place to be

With patio season finally here, my thoughts turn to warm summer days lounging in the backyard, sipping margaritas while the kids play cooperatively in the sandbox. Sure, the last part is but an impossible dream, but there’s nothing to stop me from making the lounging and the margaritas happen. And I think I know the perfect deck chair in which to lounge quite stylishly. The beautiful chairs and stools from Gallant & Jones are nothing if not drool-worthy. They are handmade in western Canada from North American White Oak, which, I have now learned, is both water- and rot-resistant....

Swoop bags for LEGOS get more portable. Whoo!

Whether you need to organize LEGOs, corral Polly Pockets, or secure squirrely Squinkies, the Swoop bag has been our go-to recommendation for smart, easy toy orgnization. And now they’ve got a new to-go version made just for travel, that’s  just as sturdy and brilliant as the larger version. Plus? Ooh, the colors! We love the original Swoop bag for its ability to reduce a huge pile of LEGOs and tiny bits into a tidily contained bundle, so it’s no surprise that we adore the new Swoop Mini.  At only 16 inches in diameter, the Swoop Mini is perfect for carrying...

Great uses for over the door shoe bags. Smart! Our Editor Kristen’s new Cafe Mom column, If I Knew Then What I Know Now launches with a post on Why a baby book is more important than you think. (Good thing we found this one this week!) Our own food blogger, Stacie Billis, launches a...

A cool free Scandinavian online magazine for parents and kids: Ja tack!

Every once in a while, something amazing comes along in the land of kids and parents that makes me giddy with excitement. And more often than not, whatever that amazing thing may be ends up costing me a lot of money. Not so with my recent discovery of a totally free online magazine devoted to all things Scandinavian.   The brand new Danish online design magazine from the website Lille Nord, is dedicated to showcasing Scandinavian designers, artists, products and shops in the trendiest of ways. And it’s all free. Which I love, of course. The fourth issue of...

A is for aperitif. Or…apple juice? Yeah, apple juice,

Our admiration for NYC photographer Joanne Dugan goes way back. From her genius ABC NYC book and then her NYC counting book, to the custom name artwork made from her photography, her work is equal parts sophisticated and child-like, which is why we love it as much as our kids do. And now she’s got a new project that we’re thrilled about, available at one of our very favorite museum stores.   The new Alphabet City coasters at the MoMA store take Joanne’s wonderful urban typographic images and turns them into a set of 28 US-made, eco-friendly coasters. No,...
