The best advice for pursuing your passions and finding success. (Or at least we think so.)

One of the things I love about the Cool Mom Picks community is how entrepreneurial so many of you are. Every week we hear from bloggers finding their voices, start-up owners pursuing long-held dreams, mothers returning to work in new fulfilling ways, and of course all the artists turning their passions into businesses. So I am absolutely thrilled to be contributing to the American Express Tumblr community, sharing tips and advice on how you can best pursue your passions. I launched with the best career advice worth taking that I ever ever received myself–a lot of which has come...

The best ice cream sandwich recipes. As if there could be a bad one.

Soon I’ll be carrying on here about school lunch gear, packed lunch recipes, and the best after school snacks. So this week, I want to take in summer. I want to take it in the biggest, baddest way that I can imagine. This week, I want to forget the school lunch sandwich and celebrate the ice cream sandwich with 5 of the most amazing ice cream sandwich recipes. Take that, fall. I chose recipes that call for you to make either the cookie or the ice cream, but not both. Not that I’m opposed to making both from scratch,...

Now you and Seth Rogen can send a funny birthday card together. For charity.

The next time you need to send a birthday card to someone special, wouldn’t it be even better if you got Seth Rogen to help out? Because you can.      Thanks to Treat, the greeting card service from Shutterfly, Seth has joined Treat’s Celebrity Birthday Card Collection to create a pair of funny cards ready for easy customization. You can even add a photo. Better than that, though, is the fact that Seth’s card makes a donation to Hilarity for Charity. So you’re not just giving a card, you’re helping to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s. Which,...

Gorgeous accessories we bet no one else will have

One of the many things I love about online shopping is that you can find all sorts of cool hidden gems in faraway places without having to actually go there. And that’s exactly what happened when I stumbled upon The Little Drom Store. Now, if you happen to be in Singapore, you can pop into their storefront, but if you’re like me, you’ll be shopping from their online shop, which is full of gorgeous, unique baubles. I’m completely smitten with these fabulous knitwear necklaces (though they’re not actually made of knit). What a cool style statement over a white...

After learning about HelloFlo.com earlier this year, I’m happy to say that I’m no longer caught off guard on a monthly basis. In fact, you may have have seen the hilarious HelloFlo Camp Gyno video that’s circulating this week–but behind the (racy) humor there’s actually a super smart subscription service to help your daughter prep for her first monthly scramble for supplies. And we’ve got the full scoop. (Don’t worry, mamas of really little ones; it’s not quite as scary as it sounds to you now. Kind of.) Coming this September, HelloFlo.com will introduce their HelloFlo Period Starter Kit....

The best bag for vacationing with baby…and baby’s 14 tons of stuff

I consider myself a pretty light packer, but traveling with kids can make an overpacker of the best of us. Especially if a baby is involved. Those tiny people sure don’t travel light. Luckily, the wise folks at Phil & Ted’s have found a way to make packing tons of stuff a total breeze.   Phil & Ted’s new Universal Travel Bag is designed to protect and carry all of the baby’s essentials (and then some). First and foremost, it’s a stroller bag. Because of its unique wrap design, this bag is adaptable to almost any stroller you want to pack. It’s...

Fab vintage-style posters to feed your travel fantasies

Israel, London, Venice, Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, Trinidad, Hawaii–I absolutely loved traveling in my younger years. Though I wouldn’t trade being a mom for anything, let’s face it: world travel is not simple (or cheap) when parenthood enters the picture. These days, it seems the farthest I get away is the annual family trek to the Jersey Shore. Happily I’ve found a wonderful way to satisfy my culture-hungry eyes.  The gorgeous retro-vibe prints in the World Travel poster collection from the Anderson Design Group is where it’s at (and where I wish I could be). Their vintage-style travel posters have a fab...

Personalized baby gifts guaranteed to bring the squees

If you’re looking for a baby gift that’s going to stand out from the other baby gifts–in more ways than one–we think we’ve found one that’s perfect. And perfectly adorable. The personalized name baby leggings from Jennifer Ann are so beautifully designed. We’ve seen similar and they always look a little…wonky. But these? Wow. Made from 100% organic cotton right in the USA, each pair is entirely handsewn to order. The printing quality is really beautiful, and I love both the script and the block type fonts–and the number of color choices. You can even get a matching personalized baby...

Get a handle on skimboarding with the D6 Surfskimmer

Last summer, after my kids saw some little beach bums flinging skimboards into the surf, they couldn’t wait to try the sport themselves. Uh, I’m not sure their tailbones will ever be the same. Let’s just say that skimboarding is not easy. But this summer, we found a skimboard that is willing to give us a hand(le). This board will get your kids skimming in no time, with many fewer hard falls. The D6 Surfskimmer uses a real skimboard as its base but also sports a sturdy, moveable T-bar handle. My kids used the handle to push the Surfskimmer...

Beat the heat: eco-friendly cardboard playhouses are a cool summer retreat

I don’t know what it’s like in your neck of the woods, but here it’s got to be the hottest summer on record. So we are mighty big fans of outside of the box concepts (like this sweet-treat playhouse by OTO) for letting the kids and their imaginations run wild. And now we’ve turned up some more. {Don’t miss an exclusive giveaway for CMP readers after the jump!} I’m thinking these Build a Dream playhouses will pretty much make my kids...

The royal baby’s swaddling blanket? Actually, one you can afford too.

One of our favorite things about running Cool Mom Picks is watching the little labels make it big. And that’s just how we felt when we saw that Aden + Anais, the swaddlers we fell in love with way back in 2007 at their launch, have been photographed as the first swaddling blanket of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge. Which one exactly? It seems the bird print from the Aden + Anais Jungle Jam Swaddle set (on the far left, above) the lucky print. And we don’t blame the new parents at all. In fact, how cool...
