The greatest quotes from the greatest female role models: Bookmark The Reconstructionists, stat.

As we move to empower our daughters, to help them find strong role models (you know, whose accomplishments don’t include “twerking”), and to get them excited about their potential, I’m so delighted to find a new website that helps do those very things.   The Reconstructionists is a Tumblr blog which is celebrating remarkable women for a whole year. Created as a partnership between Maria Popova of Brainpickings and amazing illustrator Lisa Congdon, I cannot stop poring through it. Gather your daughters–and sons–around, read the short bios, explore the quotes, and get some good discussions going.  You’ll of course find ususal female role model...

Is it ever too early to introduce your kids to Saved by the Bell?

Ah, the 90s. It was a time of tight-rolled jeans and cell phones the size of a couch cushion. But we will always have a soft spot for the TV shows that kept us company after school every night. If you loved Saved by the Bell, Full House, and Rainbow Brite as much as we did, get ready to relive it all with cute shirts for babies who have never heard of Screech and Slater.  Time out, mamas. Ro Sham Bo Baby has an adorable line of super soft 90s TV baby shirts that rock harder than Zack Attack. And...

Places to go, people to see

Because I have a thing for typographical art, I’m geeking out over the typography shop online at Fab right now.   There’s so much cool stuff to see right now, from prints of the litograph book shirts we recently featured, to lots of cool tees and artwork. But the thing that really grabbed my eye is this You Can Do A Lot In A Day embroidery hoop art. Not to play too much into the whole “women can do it all” thing that drives us all crazy–but at least for me, it’s a nice reminder that if I spend a little less time...

A car seat for dolls: Safety gets more fun

Ever since the AAP changed the car seat recommendations for children, kids are staying in rear facing car seats and eventually, booster seats, even longer. So I’m happy to find a car seat accessory for dolls, which can help kids understand car seat safety by taking care of their own little babies.  The new Car Seat for Dolls by German company Gotz, is perfect for dolls up to 16.5 inches, like a Corolle Baby Doll–but not quite an American Girl Doll, which might have been your next question. It even has a retractable top, should the baby doll need a little protection from the...

Mamas & Papas Armadillo stroller review: minor investment, major ride

I’ve been noticing a trend lately away from some of the fancier budget-breaking dollar strollers and toward excellent quality strollers that do everything you want, but still leave room in the budget for other things. (Like, say, an iPhone 5s.) It’s not that I’m not into the fancy-schmancy strollers–because I am–it’s just that sometimes we parents want more than just a stroller. And the latest stroller from CMP fave, Mamas and Papas, is just that kind of budget-friendly baby ride. The Armadillo stroller (and yes, the name sounds like it could be from Bugaboo) has a lovely array of bright canopy and...

Map happy? This chic handmade bracelet keeps your favorite place close by, wherever you go.

Aren’t the lines on this handmade cuff striking? If you’re from Boston, they might even be familiar. Here’s why. ShopJoyo on Etsy offers tons of pretty cuffs, each one made of laser-cut cherry wood over brushed aluminum, lined with soft ultrasuede. We’re especially smitten with the Map cuff, which can be custom made using the roadmaps from the city of your choice. The example above is Boston, but the shop owner is happy to use any address you supply. And the other bracelets are cool, too. Of course, the map idea is the one that intrigues us most since...
