Browsing through photos of last night’s 2014 Ralph Lauren Kids fall preview with my girls (which we were sad to miss this year since the 2013 Ralph Lauren fall show was so great), they had some pretty strong opinions on which things they loved for themselves. Let’s just say, anything with boots? Yes! Fair isle? No. Color, yes! All brown…no way.

Don’t even ask about boys in bow ties.

So, if you’re looking for some fun, fancy girls’ looks for fall, and want the very opinionated opinion of two grade-school girls, allow us to help provide you with some inspiration for color, patterns layering and accessory ideas. Should you even be able to wrap your head around fall clothes at all just yet.

And if you do shop these specific clothes? It’s nice to know that a portion of profits will go to Reach Out and Read as part of RL’s commitment to literacy programs.

Ralph Lauren Kids fall 2014 preview - overcoat, black tulle dress

Anything lace tulle and velvet is a hit with my kids (surprise) and I love how a brown wool tweed princess coat balances it perfectly.

Ralph Lauren Kids fall 2014 preview - colorful patchwork dress

Color is always a hit with my girls,  and the edginess of a cropped vegan leather moto jacket grounds it a little. The knee-highs are a fun touch.

So classic, I was surprised my girls were drawn to it. May have been the teddy bear.

Ralph Lauren Kids fall 2014 preview - striped bubble dress

They actually debated over this one; my youngest daughter wasn’t a fan but my third-grader absolutely loved the bubble skirt but said she’d rather wear it with boots. So there you go.

Ralph Lauren Kids Fall 2014 preview - winter white

This was the first outfit that got a huge “ooooh!” from my seven-year-old not surprisingly. I also think she wants to be BFF with the cute model.

Another way to accessorize a princess-y dress: with a velvet blazer with big brass buttons. Trivia: This is Angela Wang, daughter of Chinese actress/singer Li Xiang.

Ralph Lauren Kids fall 2014 preview -mix and match patterns

Mixing and matching patterns can be tough, but the striped skirt against the patchwork bag works for me, and the fun purple jacket holds it all together.

Ralph Lauren Kids 2014 fall preview - colorful striped sweater

This may be one outfit we all loved equally–I think the  colorful plaid scarf with the colorful striped sweater is just great looking, and the colors are still pretty subdued.

Look closely at the layering: A serape striped cotton-knit dress with a denim shirt, and a camo jacket with an orange inner lining. Super fun.

Ralph Lauren Kids 2014 fall preview - orange puffer vest

Love this orange vest, and the purple lining keeps it fun and a little feminine without going to pink.

Ralph Lauren Kids 2014 fall preview - floral dresses

We all love these gauzey, chiffon floral dresses in earthy color tones, which are reminiscent of last year’s Ralph Lauren fall line for kids. My kids especially liked the boots and the vest to go with the dress.

Again with the teddy bears and lace tulle. Do you sense a pattern here?
