This summer we’re going nude–with our handbags, at least. So many great designers are creating sophisticated looks in chic neutrals, and we’re in love. This also means that I don’t have to switch handbags to match my clothes every day, but let’s be honest; when I’m trying to get three kids out the door I’m more likely to leave home with a bag that doesn’t match what I’m wearing at all.
That’s about to end, because I’m determined to get at least one of these ten neutral handbags for summertime for myself. So many great choices, where to start?

Starting at the top of the range, I’m staring at the Celine Hobo Handbag here and I’m about to faint. Talk about a splurge—you can buy this natural calfskin chamois bag new for spring/summer 2014 at a Celine boutique for about a month or two’s mortgage payment. Alternatively, if you’re a pro-on-the-go, take a look at the Celine Tie bag (at top) for a modern twist on a tote. Stunning.
This Alexander Wang Rockie Inside Out bag in chalk ($875) leans toward the whiter side of neutral without going Palm Beach white. The larger tote size ($995) is big enough to stash a few items for a quick overnight trip.
I love the hardware on this easy little handbag— the Bates crossbody bag by CMP favorite, Brooklyn based accessories designer Hayden-Harnett. ($198). Love supporting small labels and still owning something that’s just awesome.
The Morena bag by Hobo in wheat ($298) is pretty enough to be a daytime bag, but functions as a laptop tote too. I really want this one–for practicality reasons of course.
We’re all going a little crazy for this See by Chloe Perforated Bluebell Shoulder Bag at Piperlime ($495). The neutral Havana color is rich like cigars, with a feminine, slightly slouchy shape that’s perfect. Look closely and the little perforated holes are actually star-shaped. High on the want list. (And psst..all the sale items at Piperlime are an extra 25% off through 5/27 though sadly this is not one of them.)
For a steal intead of splurge, check out the Just a Perf perforated day bag which is so on trend, and a very respectable $99 at Mod Cloth from the UK brand Nika. It’s not leather so it’s lightweight–provided you minimize what you keep inside. You can do it!
Ready for a super steal? If you just can’t walk away from a little black in your summer accessories, we totally understand. This Rosetti Jeanie Colorblock bag fits the bill and looks pretty sweet for the price: just $19.99 on sale at Kohl’s. The subtle white accents are great touches.
The La Canadienne Carmelia tote ($325) is pure sophistication, and the bluish undertones in this neutral shade are lovely. A little more taupe than camel, and it would look great if you’re a silver or a gold jewelry wearer. Plus I love that they’re all made in Canada or Europe.
I recently received a sample of the new 7-piece Timi and Leslie Kate Bag to check out ($169 at their site, $133 on sale at Amazon) for the first time and can totally see why the this celebrity mom fave diaper bag brand is a CMP favorite too. It’s so stylish, you’d never know that it moonlights as a diaper bag at all. For that rare opportunity when you do get to go out without your kids, you can just grab the leather clutch that comes with it. I love that they design around the idea that moms are people too.
The macrame tote by Straw Studios at Anthropologie ($88) is so whimsical and fun. It’s perfect for moms who want to embrace summer’s carefree attitude. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a Friday night babysitter to go along with it.
