Skip Hop is inextricable from my memories of my boys in their early years. My older son started preschool with a frog backpack and ended Pre-K with a very well worn monkey on his back. My three-year-old is currently toting the fox around on his tiny shoulders, but the replacement this September will undoubtedly be the adorable hedgehog backpack. And you may know how we feel about hedgehogs. He was just added to the Skip Hop Zoo Pack lineup this month, along with a pretty butterfly and kids will love them.

Matching butterfly and hedgehog lunch boxes— which Skip Hop refers to as the cutesie “Zoo Lunchies”–are are also out this month, just in time for camp, summer fun, or getting a head start on back-to-school shopping. If you’re a little anal. (No judgments.)

The mom-run Skip Hop has been a Cool Mom Picks favorite for making awesome products that last, and I know from experience that these packs and lunch bags really stand up to the little kid test. The backpacks are super durable and come with handy side pockets for sippy cups or a thermos, while the front pouch is perfect for storing all those little toys your kid never wants to leave home without. The sturdy coordinated zipper pull on the hedgehog is a too-cute little leaf, while the butterfly has a flower, and those are details that make kids smile.

I only have a couple more years left before my little guy inevitably asks for some action hero backpack. For now I’ll enjoy his adorable hedgehog, and making more memories.

The new  hedgehog backpack and butterfly backpacks ($20) and kids lunch bags ($14) are available online at Skip Hop and lots of indie kids boutiques.
