Mom of four, Laura Hale, was looking for action figures for her sons that would offer some of the wholesome, creative play accompanied by thoughtful storybooks that so many girls had already discovered with their own line of popular dolls. That’s why she set out to design Generation Grit, a new line of retro-inspired action figures, which has just launched a Kickstarter campaign.
The series will kick off with Mac Mason, an adventurous fourteen-year-old boy from 1943 who loves ciphers, camping and baseball. An accompanying book describes his courageous adventures with his British cousin William back in California during World War II, so kids get a history lesson out of it too. And best: no weapons, no batteries, no violence.
Accompanying accessories like a letterbox, vintage radio, satchel, bedroll and clothing all packed up in a storage trunk help bring creative play to life. Mac even comes with his own desk and stool.
Future characters will similarly model empathy, kindness, strength, resourcefulness, a willingness to risk failure–and, as you can guess from the series name, grit.
Right now the Kickstarter campaign rewards start at just $10 to support their mission, but $80 will get you one of the first Mac action figures and all his clothes and accessories. And if you know more than one kid who will love this, $225 gets you three fully gift-wrapped sets, ready for holidays or birthday parties.
So many new toys are now coming out specifically to inspire girls to be their best. If Generation Grit reaches its Kickstarter goal, then boys will have their own too.
Become a backer of Generation Grit on Kickstarter before the campaign ends on July 3, 2014. Be among the first to receive the Mac Mason adventure figure (over 10″ tall), his adventure book, and his collection of accessories including his canvas satchel and camping bedroll with wool blanket and ticking pillow.
