The freezer aisle in even the most conventional market these days offers gourmet ice cream in every flavor imaginable. I’d started to think that this ice cream social was at maximum capacity until I tried Phin & Phebes, and oh boy am I glad that they’ve joined in.

Phin & Phebes Ice Cream started as a weekend project between two friends in Brooklyn. Fueled by a belief that ice cream should be simple, fun, unpretentious and delicious for both kids and adults (yes!), they started churning out flavors so fabulous that they were able to sell their products at local markets. They did so well that the ladies hit Penn State to take ice cream classes at the Berkey Creamery.

That’s right, ice cream college. Jealous?

Phin & Phebes gourmet ice cream: Banana Whama | Cool Mom Picks

Fin and Phebes: Vanilla Cinnamon Ice Cream

Today, Phin & Phebes’ deliciously creamy and perfectly flavored pints sell around the country. I cannot get enough of their Banana Whama, a banana pudding flavor with chunks of vanilla wafers, even though I usually stay away from banana-flavored foods. The Whama – as I like to call it – is perfectly balanced with a real banana-vanilla flavor that tastes just like a homemade banana cream pie. You know, the kind with fresh bananas. It’s no wonder, since Phin & Phebes is made with hormone-free dairy from family-owned farms across New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

My kids gravitate toward the Coconut Key Lime in part for the graham cracker chunks. They are also big fans of Peanutty Pretzel, and I  can’t blame them; the name alone makes me hungry. Also available are Ginger Cookie Snap, Vanilla Cinnamon, Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Dark Chocolate with Salty Caramel.

Insane, right?

Just when I thought I couldn’t be impressed by ice cream anymore.

Find out where to buy this awesome gourmet ice cream near you on the Phin & Phebes website. You can also shop online through FoodyDirect.com. Just beware that online purchases are pricey—$95, with shipping included, for 6 pints. Fair warning: if you buy once, you’ll be hooked.
