We are always on the lookout for the best and brightest new kids’ music makers on Cool Mom Picks, bringing you everyone from The Not-Its! to Shine and the Moonbeams. But today we want to honor one of the longest-enduring stars in kids’ music, the incomparable Ella Jenkins, with the hopes of getting a documentary about her life and legacy made to share with future generations of kids.

Ella Jenkins: We’ll All Sing Together will tell the story of The First Lady of Children’s Music who has been recording and performing her own songs for 60 years, including her latest release More Multicultural Children’s Songs from Ella Jenkins. (If you don’t know it, take a listen. So worth it.) Since she’s performed with everyone from Mister Rogers to Pete Seeger, and has even earned a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, I expect this documentary to be full of music, fun, and a look back at the evolution of children’s music.

This Indiegogo campaign has flexible funding, so there is a good chance that the documentary will be made even if donations don’t quite reach the target goal by September 30. But, there are some great incentives to get in and support the documentary now–CD gifts, an adorable I heart Ella shirt, an official Ella Jenkins harmonica.

Now that she’s 90 years old, I can’t  think of a more perfect time to thank someone who has broken so many musical barriers and made so many happy memories for generations.

Check out the Indiegogo campaign to help make the documentary Ella Jenkins: We’ll All Sing Together. But hurry! Funding closes on September 30.
