If you have a curious, crafty, smart, and creative tween, we have a cool new gift idea that isn’t a craft kit or art supplies, but a brand new magazine that will fill her head with things to make, projects to do, and fun ways to spend her time in the upcoming year.

Curious Jane Magazine is the newly-launched magazine from the creators of the Curious Jane summer camps and after-school programs for girls 6-11. Like the camps, which our editor Liz’s daughter has attended and loved, the magazine is designed to give young girls their own space to create, think, and imagine.

We’ve recommended magazine subscriptions as great stocking stuffers for kids or last minute gift ideas, and this one fits the bill. The magazine’s design feels playful but not too busy, with easy-to-find projects and articles that are generally focused on the season or a major holiday.

In their launch issue from October, which is the one I’ve checked out, there are seasonally-relevant articles like ideas for a DIY Halloween party, how to make fun accessories for your costume, and instructions for a cut-out mini Halloween scene. Also included are pages on age-appropriate style, interviews with cool, inspirational women for girls, and a fun, smart design challenge — like guessing how many pompoms you’d need to make a dress for the Statue of Liberty (hint: it’s a lot.)

Stay Curious with the Curious Jane Magazine subscription for girls

At $45 for six issues this is definitely a premium magazine subscription, but when you consider that our girls won’t be hit with pages of advertising, stories about the latest heartthrob, or content that is too grown-up, this seems like money well spent.

Subscribe to a year of Curious Jane Magazine, or six issues, for $45. If you’ll be giving this as a gift for Christmas, print out their cool PDF card to stick in someone’s stocking.
