Sex after pregnancy isn’t exactly the hottest topic ever, because when you’ve just had a baby, well, it’s probably the last thing on your mind. But, it’s definitely important for a relationship, and one that a lot of parents have a lot of questions about.

So, on this week’s episode of Spawned with Kristen and Liz, we welcomed our first guest, the amazing Rosie Pope, mom of four and the creative force behind the swanky Rosie Pope Maternity and Rosie Pope Baby. You probably recognize her from her Bravo show Pregnant in Heels, which made us all feel a little better about being that crazy pregnant mom. And she’s also the author of Mommy IQ: The Complete Guide to Pregnancy and has a great youtube channel featuring tons of advice…like sex.

5 tips for better sex after pregnancy

Take your time. 6 weeks. 8 weeks. It’s your call: Yes, your OB or midwife said six weeks, but it’s really in your hands as to when you give it a try. Listen to your body and take it slow.

Relax and focus on your partner: Find a time when you can actually be alone, whether it’s when the baby’s napping in the other room, or spending a little quality time with the grandparents. Whatever it takes to get yourself out of mom mode for a little bit.

Do it more often: Getting back in the saddle can be like going to the gym. You sort of dread going at first, but when you do, you feel great and you want to keep going back.

Kegel. Then kegel again. And again: Pop a reminder on your calendar. Or use prompts like when you’re sitting at the red light. But kegels really do help make things better in the bedroom (and for you, in the bathroom).

Find a way to love how you look: If you’re missing your pre-pregnancy body, it can help to remember that your partner is probably just excited for anything right now. If that, plus lights off doesn’t really do the trick, seek out other ways that make you feel sexy.
