Anyone of us parents who can still recite the Preamble to the Constitution thanks to the animated shorts of Schoolhouse Rock knows how much kids can learn (and retain) when information is presented in the right way, a.k.a, learning without realizing you’re learning. So, we are so intrigued by a series of beginner chemistry books that hope to make the behaviors of protons, neutrons, and atoms as absorbable as, say, the superpowers of Spiderman.

My First Science Textbooks by Genius Games founder John Coveyou is currently blowing up Kickstarter by reaching over 10 times its goal. Clearly, there are a lot of us parents who want chemistry to be easier for our kids than it was for many of us.

The three-book series, titled Protons & Neutrons, Electrons, and The Atom introduce kids to Pete the Proton, Ned the Neutron, and Ellie the Electron with colorful illustrations and smart text. The learning is probably best suited to grade schoolers, but even younger siblings will enjoy the rhyming story and the cartoony personalities.

My First Science books: series of chemistry books for kids

With repeated reading and the worksheets that will be added soon, these three hardcover books are likely to kick start our kids’ interest in and understanding of basic chemistry years before they are introduced to the subject in school.

Who knows? It might even help me understand my most difficult school subject well enough to help my kids with their homework. Maybe.

Order your own copies of My First Science Textbooks‘ three-book series through the Kickstarter campaign which will close in less than a week on April 8. Please note that books are not expected to ship until October 2016.
