I am an unabashed Athleta fan after being introduced to their clothes by a friend a couple of years ago. I practically live in them, mostly because I can wear them to workout and then for the rest of the day without feeling like I’m wearing gym clothes. Yes, perhaps the epitome of lazy, but hey, it works for me. So when my girls were invited to test out a few pieces of their new Athleta Girl line, I was more than thrilled. And no surprise, so were they.

Over the last couple of weeks, my girls and I (the laundress of the house) road-tested them to see whether they’re really worth the price. And so, if you’re a fan of Athleta yourself or have girls who love activewear, you’ll want to read about what we thought of the new line.

Now, I have to say that I’m a big fan of the new activewear trend for girls, which I’m seeing in lots of kids’ clothing stores these days, though some of them aren’t exactly designed for girls to be active in. That’s not the case with the Athleta Girl line, however. The shorts and tops are pretty much what I wear running, just in smaller styles obviously. The same goes for the tanks and the capris as well.

We washed everything we received a few times, and even after a couple of sweaty soccer practices, everything looked great and smelled fine — something to consider if you’ve ever dealt with washing athletic clothing. It’s really important to me that I don’t necessarily have to do a separate wash load for those clothes.

A review of the new Athleta Girl clothing line: Is it worth the money?

A review of the new Athleta Girl line of activewear.

If you’re looking for more lifestyle clothing, there are really only a few pieces right now, which is perfectly fine with me. You parents of girls who want to stay in activewear all the time will be glad to have styles to offer them that look a little more street than field or gym. But to me, this says they’re really aiming at giving girls quality activewear, not necessarily regular clothing.

And while I didn’t get to see the bathing suits first-hand, from the looks of them, they’re perfectly made for athletic girls or girls who prefer simple, stylish swimwear, especially the two-piece suits. I’m not surprised that many styles are nearly sold out.

The tricky part for me, other than the All-For-One tank which takes me a solid 10 minutes to figure out (love the layers and the built-in bra but oof, it’s challenging), is the price point. Yes, it’s comparable to high-end boys’ athleticwear but still very pricey. It’s just not in my budget to be buying lots of these items for my daughters who aren’t often playing sports, and even then, it might be something I’d have to ask Grandmom for.

But, if I knew my kids were going to be wearing the clothes everyday — whether it was to school or the field or both — I’d consider investing in a couple of pieces (maybe more), especially considering the quality of the clothes and Athleta’s fantastic return policy, which allows you to return something you’ve worn, anytime.

Overall, it’s definitely worth a look, and if anything, some applause for Athleta for creating fantastic activewear for girls who really deserve to have their interests reflected in their clothing.
