New parents know — or soon learn — how ideal it is to find baby gear that grows with your baby, especially when you’re on a budget. Which is why we’re thrilled to discover the beautifully made, modern new Tuo Convertible High Chair from our friends at Skip*Hop.

Honestly, we all tend to be fairly skeptical at this point about new baby gear that promises great looks and functionality all at a low price, but having had the chance to try a review unit for myself, well…score!

If you’re not even considering the array of $1,500 (really) high chairs out there, here’s a truly modern option thanks to beechwood legs and a cool, neutral gray color. It may look spendy, but rings in at just $160. Wow.

That’s the least expensive of all the grow-with-your-kid high chairs I’ve seen, and it still feels sturdy and well-made.

When your kid hits about 3 years old, you can just slide the high chair away from the table, lower it, and transform it into a regular seat at the table, making it essentially two smart chairs in one.

Of course, because we all know what three years of beet purees and rice cereal can do to a high chair, the foam padding is removable and easy to clean. This way, by the time that third birthday rolls around, hopefully you won’t be dying to get rid of it in the first place.

Update: As of January 9, 2018, Skip Hop’s recalled this chair due to several reports of the high chair legs detaching. If you own one like I do, you can visit their website to learn more about the problem and claim your free replacement
