The Misty Copeland Barbie is back and ready for orders. Yes!

The internet’s been all atwitter about the re-release of the Misty Copeland Barbie doll. Can we blame the buzz? It’s Misty Copeland — brilliant prima ballerina, African-American trailblazer, and all-around girl crush. Apparently we’re not the only ones who feel so strongly about a doll representing her. As part of Mattel’s Barbie “Sheroes” collection, made for adult collectors (but coveted by kids too), she sold out within an hour of its original release. So the fact that Target and Amazon are getting more in stock in a few days is fantastic news, especially since the Misty Copeland Barbie dolls I’ve been trolling...

There is a Tribe of Kids by Lane Smith is pure wonder

I fell in love with this book the moment I opened it, thanks to its luminous illustrations. I shouldn’t be surprised that Lane Smith was behind them, the artist known for kids’ classics like The Stinky Cheese Man, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and so many others. But it’s not just the gorgeous art that makes the brand new There is a Tribe of Kids so moving. Lane Smith’s latest is a story about the search for belonging, a theme so universal and so beautifully portrayed in this story, I pretty much think everyone should read it. Mo Willems’ new Thank You Book: Why you’ll be grateful for it too.

I was super excited to hear about Mo Willems latest, The Thank You Book, a new adventure in friendship between Gerald and Piggie that’s launching today. The one downside: this is the 25th and final book in the Elephant & Piggie series (say it ain’t so, Mo!) so this is one you Willems fans will definitely want to get your hands on. I mean, for your kids. Related: How Mo Willems can help decorate your child’s room The book is really a lesson in gratitude, something all kids can stand to learn over and over. In the story, Piggie feels so overwhelmed with gratitude that he plans a “Thank-o-rama” to tell...

Mother’s Day flowers that come in a vase that’s even more special

We love Mother’s Day gifts that give back and so I was happy to learn about ProFlowers’s collaboration with All Across Africa, an organization that handcrafts the most beautiful woven vases and baskets in crisp, colorful patterns. Every one is locally sourced and handmade in East Africa, where weaving is providing sustainable employment and income to the women artisans. It’s the perfect way to add a little extra joy to a Mother’s Day bouquet, especially knowing she’ll have something special long after the flowers are gone. A new twist on the Mother’s Day macaroni necklace

How do you repay the woman who gave you endless encouragement, provided countless meals, sacrificed hundreds of hours of sleep, put a roof over your head, and stood cheering in oppressive heat or laughable rainstorms for an unforgivable number of soccer tournaments? With a necklace made of stale pasta and string, obviously. Of course I realize now I can never really repay my mother’s love. Not with any jewelry. But I do think she’ll love this gorgeous throwback Porcelain Macaroni Necklace that we spotted at Food 52. Cue the nostalgia. Gorgeous accessories to help moms in need, thanks to Jessica Seinfeld’s Good+ Foundation.

We’ve been fans of Jessica Seinfeld’s charity Baby Buggy for a long while now. For the past 15 years, they’ve provided more than 20 million essential children’s supplies to low-income families in NYC and LA, and our own editor Liz is among their “Friends” board of advisors. Now, they’ve rebranded as the the Good+ Foundation to be able to help even more families, with a broader mission. For one of their first initiatives, right in time for Mother’s Day, they’ve teamed up with HSN to launch a line of fashionable items that may be perfect for a mom in your life. Or hey, maybe even...

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: The best bedtime book you’ll ever read.

I’m on bedtime duty when I visit my nieces, which means snuggling up and diving into really good stories — tales of women beating the odds and achieving great things. Well, sorta. When we’re done poo-pooing at the lions with Madeline, I often find myself scouring the girls’ bookshelves for something a bit more real-to-life to share with them. Which is why I’m so excited about the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls Kickstarter project, fundraising now. (Update: You can now order the book at RebelGirls.co) Related: My First Book of Girl Power. Lasso of Truth not included.  This book will feature 100 stories of diverse, inspiring...

13 amazing Mother’s Day quote prints that say it all, when we can’t.

I love the idea of Mother’s Day quote prints featuring our favorite quotes about motherhood. Whether it’s coming from kids who don’t always know how to express their affections (I’m looking at you, teens) or just from those of us adult children of mothers who know just what will light up our own mothers’ eyes on Mother’s Day and find a permanent place on a wall or desk. These mom quote prints we’ve found run the gamut from modern but sweet to a little sassy and sarcastic — and I imagine there’s one that will be very much appreciated for a special mom in your life....

A Mother’s Day necklace for anyone who loves you like a mother.

This Mother’s Day I will be shopping not only for the woman who brought me into this world, but also (and for the first time ever) for my mother-in-law. Which is probably why the Like a Mom necklace from Dogeared caught my eye in a big way. This delicate necklace is specifically intended for those nurturers in your life who don’t necessarily share your genes but deserve thanks (and a shiny new pendant) this Mother’s Day. My other mother list includes my aunt, my therapist, and Amy Poehler. But the only one I will be buying for is my husband’s mother. Believe me when I say I could use some...

A can-do magazine for girls who wanna run the world, featuring some impressive women who already do.

My five brilliant nieces are marching their way toward adolescence (well, one of them is technically crawling her way there at this time), and while I do my best to introduce them to the joys of science, Star Wars, sports, and all the possibilities for women in general, I recognize there are still a lot of forces working against them in those arenas. So I was thrilled when I learned about Erin Bried’s new Kickstarter project for KAZOO magazine, a publication for girls ages 5–10 that is designed, with the help of some very impressive names, to promote creativity, curiosity, exploration, and fun, across topics like science, technology, art, sports,...

Crazy cat ladies? We’ve found our handbag!

I’ve just discovered the cutest new handbag, The Kinsley Kat, and it’s likely to be pouncing to the top of a few of our accessory wish lists for spring. Designer Sylvia Soo created this adorable clutch for her young niece, but its understated styling (and not so understated price) makes it a lot more versatile than your average tween/teen animal accessory. I can picture it as a clutch that complements a little black dress for a full-grown woman with more whimsical style, but it could also look great worn with the optional strap and jeans if you’re going for a more everyday look. I also love...
