Peeled organic fruit snacks – Paradise found.

“Snack” is no longer a bad word in my house. Once upon a time in my mind, one box of baked veggie sticks used to cause a downward spiral straight to childhood obesity and school drop-outs. Welcome to my neurotic brain. Of course my rational brain knows that healthy snacks are a great energy booster and tantrum-avoider so I try to stock the cabinets thoughtfully. I really like having discovered mess-free, take anywhere Peeled Snacks. This lightly dried organic fruit has no added sugar or fat. Since they’re only lightly dried, the fruit is still soft and easy to...

Let’s just pretend spring is here, shall we?

I have one word for this time of year and it’s not nice. Stores are featuring spring clothes and outdoor toys, but outside my front door there are still the last vestiges of frozen snow, and I’m sure it’s not the last of it for the season. So, for now, I’m going to do what any sane, design-centric gal will do when she’s hit with a bad case of spring fever. Redecorate! Sort of. You can add a few sunny touches to your playroom or children’s room with the new wall decals from Wallcandy Arts. The removable Happy Flowers...

Lift a leaf and learn about a tree

I have a soft spot for good quality wooden toys. I like them so much I find myself decorating my daughter’s room with them, and these handmade, wood puzzles from Just Hatched are no exception. They’re much too pretty to keep in a drawer with a variety of lovely colors and themes like leaves, moon phases, hearts (for Valentine’s Day), simple shapes and more. The Wooden Leaf Puzzle won Etsy’s Earth Day Voter category and it’s also my favorite. Lift each leaf and see the name of the tree the leaf comes from. With the Moon Phases Puzzle, kids...

See Kai Run’s Smaller Collection for babies and toddlers does it again with their handcrafted leather Monica shoes. You can heart punch all over my page, any day.

We’re perpetual fans of Martha Stewart’s craft supplies and if you’re a DIY-er, it’s a good investment for Valentine’s Cards and crafts this month. Their new heart punch aptly called Heart Punch All Over the Page lets you achieve the impossible–an absolutely perfect heart shape anywhere on the page. Even in the center. For someone like me (an imperfect crafter with ridiculously high standards), this heart punch is a coveted tool. For someone like my daughter (a three-year-old who expects me to create perfection), this is a headache saver. We’ll be using it to decorate her class valentines, to create...

Nickelodeon Squeezers: Partly we’re saying “yay!” Partly we’re saying “oy.”

Today, my daughter’s best friend Dora the Explorer gave her a delicious, healthy snack. Yup. I played that card. And I am not nearly ashamed as I probably should be, considering the snack was 100% apple sauce with no added sugar. Nickelodeon Squeezers from Nature’s Child was our first time venturing into the exciting world of squeezable food at all. My one-year-old handled it beautifully and my three-year-old smiled wickedly at me, thinking she was eating something bad for her and getting away with it. They’ve got two flavors available: Dora hawking apple puree, and SpongeBob shilling for berry...

More snow predicted. Retail therapy needed!

I don’t know about you, but the past couple of snowy weeks have been kind of blah. No, not kind of blah. Very blah. My two kids have been home with colds and I can’t think of the last time I got to do something all for me. A little retail therapy is in order here. Lucky for me (and for all of us), we’ve found a doozie of a sale from one of our favorite jewelry and accessory shops. [don’t miss a super sale offer after the jump!] No stranger to the pages of CMP, Polli is discounting...

Baby proofing with a new kind of outlet cover

I know all about baby proofing, considering my toddler is absolutely fascinated by electrical outlets. For some reason, the combination of the right height plus holes you can poke your fingers into equals a good time. Whee! Luckily, there’s a new outlet cover in town and this one is impossible for curious hands to pry off–but a cinch for parents when they have to actually use the outlet. Kid-E-Covers were designed by a dad who designs car parts for the automotive industry, and realized he could build a better electrical outlet cover that covers the entire thing and not...

Shakespeare tees for babies. i.e. Why quote Elmo when you can quote Beatrice

Long ago, in a galaxy far away, I was an actor. Funny enough, I still do plenty of acting today as a Mom. (Help me clean up, kids. It’s so much fun!) Since the theater is still very much still part of my life, I was charmed by these onesies and t-shirts all featuring quotes from Shakespeare. Designed by a former actor, Peaseblossoms brings child-appropriate quotes to life (nothing from Macbeth, promise) with whimsical, original drawings hand silkscreened on 100% jersey knit cotton baby onesies or toddler tees. My favorite: Then there was a star danced and under that...

The baby book that almost writes itself

My first daughter’s baby book is a masterpiece of elaborate details, funny stories and photos. But my second child’s baby book? Almost empty.  Every time I open it, I’m overwhelmed by all those blank pages and I’m struck with such intense guilt that I invent an excuse that I’m too busy (or maybe I am) and put it down. I know I’m not alone here. My Own Little Story (love the name!) is exactly what I need. This website was designed to make recording all the details and memories easy and fast. Seriously, you can create a baby book...

What could be uglier than an Uglydoll? An Uglypillow!

I love the new Uglypillows from Uglydoll. Perhaps it brings out the motherly instinct in me? A face that only a mother could love? Oh, no. I hope this isn’t a throw back to my awkward years. Do you think the Uglypillows would be the last to be picked for kickball? And nobody would ask them for a slow dance at their best friend’s Bat Mitzvah? Well each of the four new Uglypillows is uglier (or cuter) than the next. These funny little friends are perfect for a nursery or playroom chair, in a crib (when they’re past the...

The peas are touching my carrots!

My daughter used to be the kid who would try anything. She liked broccoli. She ate eggs. She even liked horseradish. My husband and I would brag about it. Well, now she’s a typical, picky three-year-old and she has a few eating quirks. One of them is she won’t allow her food to touch. A lot of time that means touch her mouth, but she also doesn’t like her peas to touch her pasta. The LunchBots Trio is the new line extension from CMP fave LunchBots, makers of really marvelous stainless steel food storage containers. No plastic means no...

One of the best baby gifts in the world just got more affordable.

My quest for all things cool for babies started when a friend told me about Trumpette socks. She said all the hip Mommies in her Brooklyn Mommy’s group had them. Images of moms dressed in effortlessly chic clothes with Converse sneakers came mind. Babies flashed brightly colored feet and smiles. I wasn’t too far off. And now, those very socks just got affordable and accessible to even those outside the Park Slope environs. Target now sells Trumpettetoo with the same cute style as the original Trumpette, but easier on the wallet. The collection includes socks, tights and shoes in...

Last minute holiday card help from Cocodot that helps people in need too.

This year, I planned on getting my holiday cards out with plenty of time and all of a sudden it’s Christmas week. Good thing there’s a service that lets me send out cards–really, professionally designed holiday cards–digitally. Not only is it a lot cheaper, but it’s also a lot faster and I don’t have to buy stamps. I don’t even want to walk past the post office during the holidays. And best yet, it supports some of the best charities out there. Cocodot designs some attractive digital cards to begin with, and to make the idea even sweeter, they’ve...

Custom toy boxes make last minute gifts for kids easy.

My daughter is obsessed with being a dentist. Yes, just like that Elf on that Rudolph video. Of course, I’m delighted and I want to encourage her, but dentist toys are a little hard to come by. Luckily, I won’t have to scour the Internet in all my hours of free time (ha!) because Jade’s Toy Box is happy to do all the work for me. We knew that past Cool Mom Picks favorite, Jade’s Toy Box, creates amazing concept boxes filled with goodies for kids around amazing themes, but what I didn’t realize is they also will create...

Color like an artist. Romero Britto, to be specific.

My daughter’s first finger paintings brought tears to my eyes. “My God, she’s talented!” I told my husband. I knew I was being that stereotypical overly proud parent, but her use of color was so unexpected. Really! There is something so fresh and spontaneous about kids’ artwork and that is why I like P’kolino’s new collection of arts and crafts supplies inspired by the amazing pop artist, Romero Britto. (He’s done an Absolut ad!) In fact, he might be the Keith Haring of our kids’ generation. This collaboration, aimed at inspiring kids to create art, speaks to Romero’s belief–and...

What present will make Grandma the absolute happiest?

One year, I got my mom an electronic photo album for her holiday gift. Well, that was a flop. She told me she really wanted a regular photo book of her grandkids, just like I gave her the year before. But, I like to complicate things! So, the next year, I gave her a photo mug, then a photo calendar and a photo t-shirt. (No, I’m kidding, I’ve never made photo t-shirts.Yikes!) With all the photo centric gifts out there, the good old photo book is still her favorite and mine because it preserves the photos nicely and I...
