As it turns out, Evangeline Lilly is not just an Orc-defeating Tolkien elf, badass desert island survivor, or quantum realm-traveling Marvel superhero. She is also a super cool mom, and author of the darkly comic, wonderfully inventive new young reader series, the Squickerwonkers.

So uh…she’s busy. But she still found time to sit down with us for a super fun interview on this week’s Spawned Parenting Podcast.

At Bookcon: photo via @thesquickerwonkers on Instagram

We’re talking parenting, social media, privacy, work-life balance (and what she gives up to try to get it), Scottish accents (hers is better than ours), our favorite children’s authors, and so much more.

PS Note the sound of kids running around in the background.  Celebrity moms: They’re just like us!

PPS We love how she says “Cool Mom Picks.” Can you tell she’s from Canada?

Tune in right here right now.

Listen for:
-The one time she thinks she went too far with protecting her son’s privacy.
-The best ever rule for tweens + teens using instagram.
-What she’s given up to try and find more balance.
-What she’s learned from men, that women could try to do better.
-What inspired her to write her new book series.
-Why we need to let kids read dark cautionary tales right along with all the happy ending stories.

Make sure you’re subscribed to our podcast so you never miss an episode. And do us a solid and leave us a 5-star review! It helps other listeners find us. Thank you!

Cool Podcast of the Week

Selfie Podcast covers self-help in one of the most fun ways you can imagine

The Selfie podcast, from our friends and bloggers Sarah James and Kristen Howerton is a great listen. Sarah’s a lifestyle blogger and self-help aficionado and she’s joined by her BFF Kristen Howerton, a writer and psychotherapist to tackle the tricky and often elusive aspects of caring for ourselves. Their weekly conversations explore questions like: Why don’t I eat the way I should? How do I get enough sleep? What aspects of my personality make self-care tricky? And what’s the best way to deal with pubic hair? Yes, they go there.

And don’t forget to join our Spawned Podcast Community on Facebook. We’ll talk about all our show topics, plus anything else you’d like to chat about. Thanks so much for your support.
