A safer, cozier place for baby to sleep than the car seat

Editor’s Note: The Nap Nanny and Chill have been recalled by the CPSC. You should discontinue use immediately and return it to your retailer.  The last 8 1/2 months have not been easy. That’s how long ago our second child was born. And that was the last time I got a full night’s sleep. One place our baby always seems to fall fast asleep is the car seat, which I’m not a big fan of since it’s not exactly the most ergonomically-correct place to snooze. So I was thrilled to discover a cushier alternative that promises to lull babies...

A sweet new line for tots and tweens–hold the bling

When I go shopping for my nieces, I often find myself wishing I could just shrink my own wardrobe for them. There are so many brands out there that feel it’s necessary to splash sequins all over their duds or plaster them with silly little sayings. Thankfully, there’s a new girls-only brand designing adorable clothes that have neither bling nor catch phrases. The label Millions of Colors is an all-girls collection of super-cute separates for mini-sophisticates ages 2-12. Frankly, there’s nothing I don’t want from this label–for myself. The winter collection is full of pretty cardigans, chic tweed coats...

Pearls & Popcorn – Parisian kiddie style now available stateside

I often get stuck in a rut when it comes to buying clothes for my kids. I automatically order their jeans and sweaters from big name chains and then am continually disappointed about the fit or the fact that a hole appears after only a couple times on the playground. With the U.S. launch of a beloved French kids’ label, I’m now vowing to branch out and buy some basics from somewhere besides the mall. The French children’s wear brand Pearls & Popcorn launched in the states at Bloomingdale’s in the fall and is now available online through their...

A convertible stroller blankie that changes with the seasons

After a very generous stretch of unseasonably mild weather in New York, the freezing cold is here (sigh). Rather than pretend I live in LA, I have to take winter seriously this year since I have a new-ish baby to keep warm. Thankfully I found a new stroller blanket from 7 A.M. Enfant that feels like the coziest puffer coat and can still be used when it finally does get warmer again. [don’t miss a great giveaway after the jump!] Since strollers are the main mode of transport for us city moms, I make sure whatever is attached to...

A nursery that smells like…well, not the diaper pail.

My 8-month-old son’s nursery really stinks. He’s very prolific in the poop department, which means a Diaper Dekkor full of smelly diapers. Thankfully, I discovered a new spray that literally spritzes the stink away without icky chemicals. The spray is aptly called Kiddo Stink Away Spray and it’s from the toxin-free, aromatherapeutic skincare line Hellomellow which we fell in love with a couple years back. I’ve been spritzing it after every diaper change and it really works. My son’s room now smells like a delicious mix of essential oils rather than a public restroom. Nice way to start the...

Cleaning dirty pacifiers on the go with Dapple SurfaceWipes

My 8 month-old is going through the slobber-filled teething stage. That means a lot of wiping his drooly chin and giving him plenty of teething toys to alleviate some of the pain. One thing that I find incredibly frustrating is when he drops those teethers on the dirty sidewalk or restaurant floor and wondering how to clean them. Yes, I know that the more kids you have, the more you’re probably comfortable just wiping it off on your jeans. But for those of you clean freaks (like me), allow me to present the food grade wipes from Dapple. All of the cleaning products from Dapple use...

TaskRabbit – a.k.a. your very own personal assistant

Sometimes I feel like my days are filled with nothing but a bunch of things I have to get done. Thankfully, there’s a new website that hooks people like me up with someone willing to help with everything and anything, from grocery shopping to cooking dinner.  The new website TaskRabbit is a more dignified-than-CraigsList-way to hire someone to do something you don’t want to do. You post the task you need done on their message board with an amount you’re willing to pay. Then wait for offers to come in from their background-checked “task rabbits.” Next, you hire whoever...

Crib bumper safety – no longer an issue with this bumper-less option

There’s always been so much controversy about crib bumper safety. Even so, when my first son was a baby, I always longed for a bumper. They looked so cool in the crib and added that extra bit of style to the nursery. However since 2010 was the year that they banned the bumper, skip*hop has been smart to create a very clever alternative The new Complete Sheet from skip*hop is a bumper-less crib sheet that lends the look of an actual bumper. Sounds like magic, right? The truth is, it’s really a pretty simple sheet, with a contrasting design...

An adorable illustration of your kid drawn just for you

Just when I thought I’d run out of original gift ideas, I came across an illustrator who will draw a ridiculously cute picture of your kid along with his or her favorite possession. There’s literally no kid’s room that these illustrations wouldn’t look good in. The talented illustrator behind Unless Someone Like You does custom kids’ art prints that feature a cherubic likeness of your child along with their name. What you do is send her details like your child’s name, hair color and item they love. She uses “archival pigment print” which in layman’s terms means it’s acid-free,...

Kid mittens that war with each other instead of you

I sometimes feel like my son’s mittens are at war with me. I’m either always searching for one or trying to battle against my son’s hands to put them on. Finally, an adorable pair of mittens that appreciate the hand to hand combat we moms have to face every winter. The new handmade Vs Mittens Juniors are a genius way to get your kid to actually look forward to wearing mittens. Each pair comes with one animal predator…and one prey. You can choose from dog vs cat, frog vs fly or bird vs bee. My personal fave is the...

Hatch – The chic line of maternity fashion, now on sale

When I first saw the new maternity line, Hatch, I wanted to order every single piece in the collection. Now here’s the funny thing–I wasn’t even pregnant then. [don’t miss a great discount and a tie-in with one of our favorite charities after the jump] Hatch was born when designer Ariane Goldman, the founder of twobirds Bridesmaid, wanted to create a line that stylish women would wear before, during and after pregnancy. She totally got the fact that mamas–no matter how much money they did or didn’t have–loathe the idea of shelling out for something they can only wear...

A warm, snuggly, weatherproof and goofproof stroller blanket

It’s that time of year again when we know the cold weather is near. Or for those of us in the northeast who already got dumped on this weekend–it’s already here. Sigh. Every winter, I spend no less than 30 minutes getting my son bundled and out the door. Now that I have a second baby to tend to, I’m really happy to have found a great stroller/carrier/car seat blanket that’s a cinch to attach. [don’t miss a great discount after the jump!] The new Cold Weather Pouch from Rain or Shine Kids is a multipurpose, powerhouse of a...

Because every mom could use a third arm. Or uh, giraffe’s neck.

Sometimes I wish I had another arm. Like to feed my baby with or to hold a toy for him to play with or to cook spaghetti while doing both of those things. A cool new bit of gear for babies (that happens to look like a giraffe’s neck) aims to be just that–a third arm. Baby Giraffe is a flexible “spine” that clips to a stroller or car seat, and holds everything from bottles to toys so your real arms can do other things–like push the stroller or eat sushi. It was created by an inventor dad who...

Two awesome essentials that make traveling with kids so much easier

As every mom learns pretty early on, ease of travel with kids can come down to having the right gear. Whether we’re flying across the country or just taking the kiddos out to eat in our ‘hood, if we don’t have the proper seat, stroller or sippy cup, we’re in for a wholly unpleasant time. Enter Brica, a newish company that’s out to simplify the whole parenthood thing with awesome products that make getting out of the house a lot less of a hassle. (Edited to add: Brica products are now at Munchkin.) Brica relaunched their company last year...

A bouncy chair that does nothing except bounce. Shocking!

As much as my 5 month old would love for me to hold him 24/7, it’s just not humanly possible. For the times I need to put him down, I think there’s nothing better than a well-designed bouncy chair to keep baby upright while giving him a good view of the action. And that’s it. In other words, no bells, no whistles, no motion-activated animal sounds, no batteries–shockingly old school, right? [don’t miss a fabulous giveaway after the jump!] I’m thrilled to have found the chic and simple Vida Bouncer from Maclaren, which does nothing more than bounce. It’s...

Two new mascaras to get excited about. (Yes, we get excited about mascara.)

If there’s one thing I can’t leave the house without, it’s mascara. When you’re a busy mom, it’s a quick way to feel “done” without having to spend an hour in front of a mirror in the morning. And I recently discovered two new mascaras, in two different price ranges. that have won precious real estate in my makeup bag. My biggest annoyance when it comes to mascara is the excess goop that inevitably always ends up on the wand. LashControl Mascara has smartly rethought the tube by allowing you to scrape the wand clean and regulate just how much...

Are you t-shirt obsessed and time-starved? Join the club.

Spending time shopping for myself is basically a joke with two kids under the age of three, but it’s certainly nice to receive a little fashion treat every month in the mail. And that’s just why I joined StyleMint, the newish online, members-only club for T-shirts from fashion arbiters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I never thought I was the type to subscribe to a monthly retail club, but StyleMint has definitely changed my mind. It’s pretty straightforward–you answer some questions about your personal style and which kinds of brands you prefer (i.e. if you need retail therapy, do you...

Bottle accessories that get the drying done in style

One of my least favorite parts about the baby stage is all that bottle stuff. The making of the bottles (especially at 4 in the morning), the cleaning of them and the finding somewhere to put them. Two cool-looking new accessories from Beaba offer relief for at least part of the bottle blues. Beaba, the company that makes that genius baby food cooker that moms go crazy for, has just come out with a Folding Draining Rack and a 2-in-1 Bottle Brush that’s worth a click to the registry. I love the Folding Draining Rack because not only does...

The Maclaren denim stroller rides again, this time for two

I’m something of a stroller hoarder. We have gone through no less than ten strollers between my two sons–which is actually par for the course in New York, where our strollers are our cars. One of my faves is still the Maclaren Denim Quest which I reviewed some months back. Seems I wasn’t alone in my love for that stylish stroller; due to popular demand, Maclaren just introduced the Denim Twin Triumph Stroller, allowing even moms of twins to have another fashionable option. There’s a whole lot to love about the new Maclaren Denim Twin Triumph Stroller, other than...

A baby quilt that’s photo op ready

Nothing says “welcome to the world baby” quite like a cozy quilt. We must have gotten half a dozen of them as gifts when each of my sons were born. We are fully loaded with brightly colored patchworks, dizzying animal prints and handmade woven blankets, all of which do the job, but oh how I wish one of those quilts were as delicate, soft and gorgeous as these lovely ones by Little Auggie.  Made with ultra-snuggly 100% cotton, the printed baby quilts from Little Auggie look perfect for wrapping little bundles. They are certainly not the most budget-friendly blankies...
