Baby is here -STOP- telegrams are back in style -STOP-

I love a beautiful birth announcement as much as the next person, but they are starting to seem redundant these days. Now nothing’s faster than a quick tweet or Facebook post letting everyone you’ve ever known since you were 4 that the baby arrived….like, two minutes ago. And that’s exactly why I like the classic old-school idea of sending out a telegram instead.   Telegram Stop lets friends and family know the newest family member has arrived, with cool retro style and no-rush charm. (After all, that baby took her grand old time getting here too, right?) It’s not just for...

The new Phil & Ted’s Poppy high chair converts to a not-so-high chair

You know what’s always a major disappointment? When an amazing company like Phil & Ted’s releases a great new baby item after my babies are already too grown up to need it. And now they’ve gone and created a high chair that almost makes me want to have more babies. Almost. The new Poppy high chair is a very nearly birth-control-defying product. The sleek new chair is such a perfect design meant to grow with your child, that I totally wish I had one in my kitchen right now. For everyone with a baby: you will want to take...

A personalized gift for Mother’s Day from the whole family. Even the ones with the funny names.

Personalized gifts are an interesting challenge in our home. My long-suffering children have the unusual kind of first names that turn heads in the grocery store when I’m hollering for one of them to climb down from the produce bins. Which means we aren’t exactly overrun with items bearing their names. Still I love their names. Dearly. I helped choose them, after all. So I can only imagine how sentimental a gift like the personalized throw pillow from RedEnvelope would make me. Imagine: a simple cotton throw pillow emblazoned with all the reasons they love me and, as an...

Gorgeous disposable diapers, including a philanthropic hippopotamus

Though I’ve always been a cloth-diaperer at heart, I use my share of disposables, too. So when CMP fave The Honest Company launched last year, I was so very jealous of the gorgeous diaper prints available because I can’t get them up in Canada. And now there are 3 new patterns to fill me with envy, and not just for their cuteness.  The three new Honest Baby diapers that fill me with cross-border envy include a pink strawberry print that’s adorable for spring even without a diaper cover; an awesome comic book print that will have every little adventurer kapow-ing post-diaper-change,...

Trip the nightlight fantastic

I have a small house. Which seems like an irrelevant thing to mention when I’m about to tell you about a beautiful nightlight. But a small house equals much shared space. And when you share space and want to light it for your kids in the middle of the night, maybe a garish superhero nightlight isn’t the way to go.   Which is why I’m mightily in love with The Night Light by Six Point Un, a super-cool Canadian design team. Its simple lines and natural wood finish would blend in with any modern design. Plus the LED light...

Some walls like to be drawn on.

There’s something about wallpaper that feels like more of a commitment than paint. Maybe it’s the glue. Maybe it’s the hours of labor spent lining it up juuuust right. But I think I’ve found a cute wallpaper idea that might be worth the investment. The new i see you wallpaper from Cavern is covered in black googly eyes on white paper. That’s it. Sounds kind of weird, right? That’s just until your kids have at it with an array of rainbow-colored crayons. (Uh, just make sure they’re old enough to understand exactly which walls of the house they can draw on.)...

Ceci n’est pas une ironic onesie

Sure, there are plenty of funny baby shirts. And then there are funny baby shirts calling attention to themselves as funny baby shirts. Okay, maybe there’s just one hilarious self-referential ironic tee for little ones. But if you ask me, every hipster baby needs it, stat. No baby should be without a My First Ironic T-shirt Snapsuit from Wry Baby in their onesie drawer. The unicorn! The rainbow! The irony! We all have a bitingly sarcastic friend whose baby needs this shirt, don’t we? And unlike some articles of baby clothing, I think this one only gets better when it gets...

Wonderful wooden blocks for multitasking kids

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Petit Collage here at CMP. It’s also no secret that we think wooden blocks are an absolutely perfect gift for occasions of all kinds and children of all ages. But when the two combine? Well, to say we’re excited would be an understatement. The new Safari Jumble from Petit Collage is a set of wooden animal blocks, a brainteaser puzzle, and stylish bedroom décor all rolled into one. Talk about multitasking. Nine wooden animals fit together just-so in a small wooden tray (don’t worry, the animal outlines are laser-etched right onto the tray,...

Ippinka: the shopping site for the minimalist crowd

I know these days it feels like there’s a new shopping site born every minute. But there’s one I’ve just discovered that’s fast becoming an obsession for me, because the products are so sharp, stylish and imaginative. The site is Ippinka, and they sell only products that adhere to their four principles of good design: functional, well-made, minimalist, and environmentally- and socially conscious.  Love when someone else does all the research for me. Now one huge caveat (and pet peeve) is that you have to register to be able to see the products–though I think I got around that when...

The kids’ table is the place to be with Marimekko’s fun, fancy dishes

I love using colorful matching dish sets for my kids’ snacks and meals. Not to mention, I swear it makes my kids eat better. And now, there’s a new line of children’s dinnerware from Marimekko–yes, the design house responsible for the iconic bold prints that may be on your couch cushions or even baby clothes–that I’m totally in love with. Made from durable porcelain–so not for babies–the four different kids’ dish sets include a plate, a bowl, and a mug. On the plus side, porcelain means microwaves, dishwashers, ovens and freezers are all fair game.   Now I will...
