The baby bibs for full contact eaters

The more time I spend around other people’s babies, the more I realize how lucky I was that my own weren’t the types to end up with more peas on their bodies than in their mouths at meal time. For those kids who like to get a little more Jackson Pollock with their baby food, I always recommend the long-sleeved learners bibs with more coverage than your standard below the chin deal, like the ones from Baggino. I just discovered these mom-designed smock-like body bibs and they look rather smart from the website. I like the simple design of...

When you research enough to give the very best

I like giving the best gift at the baby shower. Call me competitive, but I just feel that as a mom of two young kids that I should be better equipped to pick out the perfect gift than Great-Aunt Mary who still thinks the baby should be sleeping on her stomach and has no idea what a Bumbo seat is. (You know, the sort of gift that I came looking to CMP for before I became a contributor here.) Here’s a perfect example: The Bebe au Lait gift set which includes their awesome rigid-neck nursing cover and three super-plush...

Sweet dreams are a good gift for moms, too

My parents can’t help it – they see something cute for the kids and they buy it. I suppose that’s The Prerogative Of The Grandparent. My only hope is that their version of cute is my version of cute (and that it doesn’t happen to be loaded up with cadmium). Well recently my kids’ Grammy scored with a stop at the boutique of fabulous local kids’ playspace Appleseeds, and the procurement of two deliciously soft cuddle pillows from Angel Dear. These half-moon shaped pillows are actually cuddly friends like bunnies and puppies and sleeping elephants, and are apparently stuffed...

Aden & Anais Burpy bibs – It’s a bib! It’s a burp cloth! It’s both!

Ever since I was introduced to the Aden & Anais muslin swaddlers, I’ve anxiously awaited (and subsequently been blown away by) their new products, most recently the baby sleep sacks. So I’m not surprised that I was instantly smitten with their new genius Burpy bibs. Crafted from their signature muslin in a slew of cool, exclusive patterns, these burp cloths are thick and soft which is a must for drooly, spitty baby faces, but even better, the cloths are shaped to fit easily on your shoulder. That means they’ll actually catch the drool and spit instead of your shirt. But if...

It’s a blanket! It’s a pillow! It’s a Balob!

My son, the one who is afraid there may be a monster under his bed, is totally willing to curl up with a Balob, Joop or even a Doot as he heads off to dreamland. Who can blame him: Muddy Cloud’s adorable cast of characters, which we’ve loved on their childrens hats and gloves and their finger puppets, are much more cuddly than monstrous. And now they’ve been transformed into a line of limited-edition Pillow Blankets in time for the cold winter. These soft, squishy, sizable pillows measure 16″ square, a great size to bring on long car rides...

Gender neutral baby bedding? Reader Q&A

I just found out we’re expecting a boy who’ll be sharing a room with our 3-year-old daughter, who will be 3 years old, so I need to buy bedding for both of them. Any suggestions on where to find bedding that will look great in a boy baby/girl preschooler shared bedroom? -Katie Congrats Katie! We didn’t plan as well as you have and now my two-year-old son currently sleeps in a bright pink room with his older sister. Thankfully, it’s easier than it ever has been to find gender-neutral bedding. You’ll find a bunch of lovely (and I mean...

Dwell bedding provides some sweet girly dreams

When I went on the hunt for new toddler bedding for my daughter recently, I was amazed at some of the adorable options out there these days. One that really caught my eye is the Paper Dolls duvet set from Dwell Home Furnishings. The bedding features the classic paper dolls in fresh modern colors that are sweet and girly without being frilly. I love that this set says “girl” and not “baby,” which I think she will appreciate as well. And it will easily transition with her from little girl as she grows into a (gasp!) big girl. Well,...

Toddler bedding that’s looks absolutely nothing like toddler bedding. (That’s a good thing.)

I hesitate to admit that my daughter’s current toddler bedding collection includes a queen sheet wrapped twice around the mattress and a handmade quilt with shudder-worthy pink flowers. Needless to say, not my style. That’s why I was so drawn to Olli and Lime’s line of modern toddler bedding and their cool geometric sensibility. I particularly love the Egg comforter and pillowcase set (shown) and how its mod geometric design is perfect for boy or girl, since I have one of each — I figure I’ve got a greater chance of spending $100 on a comforter and pillowcase if...

At least the inanimate people around here are getting some sleep at night now

At two, my youngest daughter is already into dolls in a way that her big sister never was. She pushes them in strollers, shares her dessert with them, and gives them rides on the bulldog–much to the bulldog’s dismay. She tucks her dolls into bed with her with so much care and sweetness and kindness, that it almost makes up for the fact that she was shrieking bloody murder moments beforehand when I told her she couldn’t sleep in my bed. (Ah, two. Such a glorious, glorious age.) And now she is going to be able to tuck Rose...

Snug as a pea in a pod. Or at least in a baby sleep sack.

While I can’t say that sleep sacks miraculously kept my kids from waking up, they at least kept me from needlessly running to their cribs to cover them up or untangle them from their web of blankets. It’s a great practical gift for new moms, but it seems as though most baby sleep sacks are styled with the idea that kids are wearing them in the dark. That is clearly not the case with the gorgeous Mandarin Fun baby sleep sack from Violet’s Peapod. Fashioned in their unique signature pea pod shape to give baby’s feet plenty of room...
