Until there’s a changing table in every restroom — male and female — one company has come up with an innovative solution in a portable baby changing table. And it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen. The Baby Change-n-Go was designed by two moms with toddler twins, with the hopes of saving parents a whole lot of grief when the only option is to change your baby on the bathroom floor (ew) or in your lap. It’s small enough to fit in your diaper bag until you need it. Then you just unfold it, and basically slip over the top of any public restroom stall door. Fold it down, and you’ve got...Read More
Now your baby’s bottom can get political this election season with these limited edition Honest election diapers that are eco-friendly and bipartisan-friendly, too. (Great for split households.) Related: Get political with these new TOMS shoes We’ve been longtime fans of Honest diapers and not just because we have a girl crush on Jessica Alba (who doesn’t, seriously?). Not only are they freaking cute, they’re made from sustainable, plant-based materials, without chlorine processing or additives, but still keep babies dry. Not included, however, is the Sharpie. To make them your own DIY partisan diapers, of course. Heh. You can order the Honest election diapers...Read More
Even if you’re not in the market for a new diaper bag, you might want to give the waterproof diaper bags from TWELVElittle a second look. My kids haven’t been in diapers in years, but I’ve been using their new waterproof diaper bag daily because it makes a perfect pool tote, too. There’s plenty of room for sunscreen, snacks, and towels for three kids. And if you do have little ones, it’ll work well for hauling diapers and swim vests, too. Or, you can hook swim vests to the shoulder straps — wet or dry — without worrying about ruining a pretty bag....Read More
Summer break has already started for my kids, and will soon for the rest of you all who are still dealing with daily drama of homework and packing lunches. Our first day was spent at the pool. Mom win, right? Well, sort of. Because my youngest — also, the squirmiest who hates getting sunscreen slathered on him — got burned, badly. And all too quickly I remembered it’s hard to trust your eyes in the bright sun to see if your kids are getting too pink and need to reapply their sunscreen. Well, if you’ve got any pre potty-trained kids in your house,...Read More
I found out today that 30 percent of moms living below the poverty line can’t afford the diapers they need for their babies. As in, sometimes their kids have to wear the same diaper all day long because that’s all they have. I shouldn’t be entirely surprised when you look at the poverty issues with mothers in particular, but no mom should have to choose between food and diapers for her kids at the end of the day. And with Mother’s Day coming up, it really makes us think about those moms who could use a lot more than a...Read More
Baby bums are cute, but cloth-diapered baby bums? Well, they’re really something else. So when I learned about the lovely new handmade-to-order cloth diaper covers by Carissa Halbmaier in the Cool Mom Picks Indie Shop, I got just a little bit excited thinking about all the babies I’ll be able to buy them for. (Update: They’re now available at the Barrel and a Heap Etsy shop.) These bright, bold geometric prints are nothing like the plain primary-colored cloth diaper covers from my diapering days. And looks aside, these covers are also conveniently designed to grow with baby, plus lined with PUL fabric...Read More
Summertime means pool time for my family, and while I’m so so glad we’re finally all out of diapers this summer, I’m a little bit jealous that we missed the boat on so many adorable reusable swim diapers that are now out there. Not that jealous, mind you, because I’d much rather spend my extra cash this summer on popsicles, not diapers.(And heaven knows I’m delighted to be out of the diaper phase all together.) But if you’re in the market for cute, eco-friendly, and cost-effective alternatives to those disposable swim diapers, check out these favorites of ours that look more like bloomers...Read More
When my oldest was a baby, my “portable changing pad” was a burp cloth spread out on a bathroom counter. Nothing wrong with that, but looking back I would have prefered one of aden + anais’s portable diaper changing pads back then. We’ve been big fans of aden + anais for ages (they just keep making so many great things!) and this changing pad is no disappointment. It comes in eight of their modern, cool designs — I love “up, up and away” and “liam the brave” — and they’re made from a pre-washed cotton muslin. And they are so soft. The pads are...Read More
After the birth of my third baby, I was quickly jettisoned back into the world of nonstop diaper changes. For those of you still in that 12-a-day phase–or even if you just keep wipes in the car or the kitchen–the affordable, handmade WipesWraps by CleverRelish are an adorable way to make that generic wipes case a little prettier around the house. Some of the designs are a little off for me (that is the strangest “camo” fabric I’ve ever seen), but there are some nice simple stripes, chevrons, and prints like Cool Nordic that feel a bit more sophisticated. As for function,...Read More
Finding the right diaper for your new baby can be just as difficult as finding the right jeans for your post-partum body. Without naming names, I can still remember the popular brand of diaper that caused volcanic leakage that ruined my first baby’s cutest onesies. Another brand smelled funny. And yet another had tape that wouldn’t stick. $40 and three boxes of useless diapers later, I –like many moms–finally found the brand that fit my baby perfectly. Now, a new service makes finding the right diaper easier–and cheaper. Diaper Dabbler is a brilliant new way for new parents to...Read More
