2011 calendars that are printable. And pretty. And free.

I love looking at a fresh, crisp, blank calendar. There’s something about it so filled with promise–and unfilled with scribbles and scratch-outs and reminders of stressful days. I think our friends at Red Stamp Cards feel the same way, since they’re offering four lovely free printable calendars. These free 2011 printable calendars use the year-at-a-glance format, perfect for hanging over the desk or by a nightstand. My favorite is the multi-colored modern one, of course, but I’m sure any of them wold make me happy. At least until I start writing on them. –Liz Get your free 2011 printable...

Lovely print-at-home gifts to save you from the 11th hour mall run

Doing all of my shopping online sounds like such a brilliant way to avoid a lot of the stress of the holidays, except for now, when my choices are to email a gift card, which doesn’t seem very personal, or pay gigantic overnight shipping charges. I had just about resigned myself to having to hit the mall, when I found the neatest little online shop that has some great gift ideas–all of them printable. Everything at New Hampshire’s Salt & Paper from the Robot Art Print (below) to the personalized stationery, is made to be printed from the comfort of...

Gorgeous printables: some free, some just free for Cool Mom Picks readers

I made a huge withdrawal from the Crafty Mom Bank on Halloween, when I decided to make a Big Bird costume for my daughter by hand. Turns out even a mini bird requires a lot of faux feathers. So I’ve been ever-so-slightly grinchlike when mustering up creative thoughts for the oncoming holiday season. But there will be no mama-made invitations or banners to any family fete for the foreseeable future, because I found Anders Ruff. These gorgeous custom graphic printables are just waiting for you to customize them and print them from home. Now that’s a DIY project I...

Cool Halloween printables that don’t look like bad clip art

You know what’s scary? Realizing you’ve invited a bunch of little butterflies and superheroes to invade your home for a pre-trick-or-treating soiree, and then realizing your house is not ready. Ahem. Since making a last-minute dash to a party-supply store sounds about as appetizing as a vampire bite, my strong suggestion is you settle back and DIY. Particularly if you can call hitting “Print” on your computer “doing it yourself”.   Besides the obvious convenience, the printable Schlock Horror Halloween party from the UK’s happythought is way cooler than anything you’ll find lying in the ravaged racks of any store’s Halloween section. How cute...

Announcing the easier birth announcement

Announcing the birth of... um… well…forget it. Back in 2008 I was so busy sitting on an ice pack and juggling two kids that I never sent announcements. It just seemed like either a lot of trouble or a lot of money, and I didn’t dig either prospect. What I do dig now is the outrageous ease of ordering digital birth or baptism announcements through a company like Lullabyannouncements.com. You simply select your design, provide a photo, fill in the blanks for text, and designer Chadlee Colson will create the perfect announcement just for you. She won’t even judge...

Mondo murals for your mini Matisse

My daughter is a normal three-year-old: obsessed with being big, doing grown-up things, and wearing leotards for 90% of her life. Okay, so maybe the leotard thing isn’t normal, but it’s no wonder she gets bored with the same old princess coloring books and tired box of broken crayons. She wants to do big things. Real things. That’s why I’m so excited about Art Projects for Kids, a free website with daily art projects for all ages that are different (crayons, shmayons), fun, and above all, real. Most projects include a short lesson on a famous artist and then...
