Breaking news: BOB stroller recall

The CPSC action du jour is a BOB stroller recall affecting nearly 500,000 single and double strollers sold in the US and Canada. Evidently the backing behind the company logo on the stroller canopy can detach, and babies, particularly those in infant seats, can reach it and put it in their mouths. While of course choking hazards can be quite serious, fortunately no children have been hurt. If you own a BOB stroller (a very good one, in our estimation), the solution, according to the CPSC is simply to remove the embroidery backing patch from the canopy (visit www.bobnotices.com...

The Maclaren denim stroller rides again, this time for two

I’m something of a stroller hoarder. We have gone through no less than ten strollers between my two sons–which is actually par for the course in New York, where our strollers are our cars. One of my faves is still the Maclaren Denim Quest which I reviewed some months back. Seems I wasn’t alone in my love for that stylish stroller; due to popular demand, Maclaren just introduced the Denim Twin Triumph Stroller, allowing even moms of twins to have another fashionable option. There’s a whole lot to love about the new Maclaren Denim Twin Triumph Stroller, other than...

A Bugaboo stroller accessory not just for Bugaboos.

I’ve always admired Bugaboo for their inventive, practical design–their infamous strollers and thoughtful accessories have arguably influenced a new wave of great design in baby gear. And I really love what they’re doing with their handy new stroller organizer, especially since you don’t have actually to own a Bug to use it .(Shh…) The Bugaboo organizer is a really smart alternative to a diaper bag, especially if you’ve got an actual Bugaboo (which, as moms know, doesn’t have “tons of storage space” as a prime selling point). You just affix the two straps onto the handlebar and you’ve got...

Feeling blue about the same old Orbit G2 stroller?

Sometimes it can get boring pushing around the same old stroller year after year. I know you mamas know what I’m talking about. Now, if you’ve chosen your stroller wisely (which, as a CMP reader, you surely have), it’s not going anywhere anytime soon because it’s totally built to last. But you don’t keep the same purse every season. Or clothes. So why should you keep your stroller looking the same? That’s where the awesome Color Packs from Orbit Baby come and save the day for any Orbit Stroller G2-pushing mamas out there. With a quick swap of the...

phil & ted’s, you’ve got some Verve!

It’s got to be said: I’ve never been a big fan of the in-line stroller concept. I was always worried that the poor kid in the bottom kind of gets the shaft, staring at the back of a seat for the whole ride. Much to my surprise however, all it took was one look at the phil & ted’s Verve stroller with the double kit attached, for my kids to start fighting over who would get to ride in that bottom seat first. Guess I was wrong. We really enjoyed our time trying out the Verve. It’s a sleek...

A stroller sunshade that makes sense

I can get a little crazy about sun protection (just ask my husband). I douse myself in SPF 30 every single day–no matter the time of year–and I run for the shade at the playground and the park. So it’s only natural that I want the same safe sun vigilance for my kids. I’ve been looking for a good stroller sunshade–a non-black one that still lets my sons see the world–and I finally found one. Thank you Maclaren! The new Sunshade from Maclaren is a smart and stylish light grey color. I never understood why so many stroller sunshades...

The latest stroller accessory is off the hook

You know what I love most about my stroller? Having something to toss all my stuff in whenever I’m out. I’m not kidding. I really do depend on a stroller to be my pack mule. And now there’s the simplest little invention that helps me do it. The Jumbo Swirly Hook from the mom inventor of the brilliant Buggy Cup, is right up my alley. It attaches to a stroller handle bar (think Bugaboo type, not umbrella handles) with a velcro strap. And then you’ve instantly got yourself a handy-dandy hook to put lots of bags on, even with...

The best lightweight city strollers? – Reader Q&A

I’ve been a huge fan of my Maclaren Techno XT. It’s a 2003. Sadly, it’s reaching the end of its usable years and I’m in the market for a new stroller. It must be subway friendly, lightweight and comfortable. Before I just purchase another Maclaren, I’m wondering if there is anything new out there I should try first. -Michelle I’m a subway-riding, stroller-pushing, big-city-dweller, too, Michelle, so I think I have an idea of what you’re looking for. My intial thought is that another Maclaren will probably be your best bet again. They’re excellent, hardy strollers that are lightweight,...

Cybex Onyx – The umbrella stroller of my dreams

I do believe I have just discovered the umbrella stroller to end all umbrella strollers. All hail the Cybex Onyx. First, let me say, the Cybex Onyx is a high-end umbrella stroller. Which means it’s not a $25, throw-in-the-trunk, department store special, nor does it have that kind of price tag. But it will spin circles around most other umbrella strollers. And, it just so happens, I’ve absolutely fallen in love with it. How could I not? On top of the smooth ride and easy fold I would demand of any luxury umbrella stroller, the Onyx comes in five...

Bugaboo Donkey double stroller review: The ultimate mommy status symbol has arrived

Dear reader, I jumped for joy at the opportunity to test drive the hot-off-the-presses Bugaboo Donkey for you all. (Right. For you.) It is the most talked-about stroller I’ve ever seen, and I had been ogling it online ever since I first heard about it last fall. Let me start off by saying that I had never used a double stroller before this month. I just had my second baby in late April and was determined to force my toddler son into walking everywhere rather than buying a double stroller. Boy was I in for a rude awakening. I...

A bodyguard for your stroller?

Any mom in a big city knows how hard it can be to navigate in-and-out shopping with a stroller. The stores and restaurants are small and crowded and the unsecured stroller parking zones don’t provide a who lot of assurance. What’s a mama on the go to do? Meet your personal Buggy Guard, a cute combo lock that can safely secure your stroller in almost any situation. The lock features a retractable 4 foot cable (vinyl coated so as not to scratch your ride) and an attachment bracket that wraps around any cross bar stroller. The four designs–monkey, panda, pig...

My Blue Bumbershoot – Never again be soggy behind the stroller

It’s one of those rare faults of nature that moms don’t sprout a few extra arms after they have a baby. Even simple walks get tricky when you have only two hands: you have to push a stroller, shoulder your purse, hang onto a shopping bag, pick up a fallen sippy cup, slurp a much-needed cup of coffee, field a call on your cell…. And what if it starts raining? Tough luck, soggy mama. You’re out of hands. Thank goodness motherhood makes invention a necessity. We will never again sport the drowned-rat-steering-a-stroller look, thanks to the smart thinking of...

Sock it to your stroller handles with Buggy Socks

I’ve been a fan of the latest and greatest baby gear for a long time. But now I think I can say I’ve seen it all because I’ve just opened up a package of Buggy Socks. They are exactly as the name describes: Cotton socks. For your umbrella stroller. Well, for the stroller’s handles, to be precise. Okay, so the concept sounds a little strange. But think of what these things can do for you. Got an old stroller that needs a makeover? Buggy Socks. Got a cat that likes eating the foam on the stroller handles? (Or is...

Bumbleride Movement Edition stroller has got it going on.

The Movement edition stroller, in case the name isn’t clear enough, is all about getting moms moving and keeping babies comfortable, making it easier to be active with baby, no matter what the weather. (Because we all know how a wet, uncomfortable baby can ruin a good run or walk.)  That’s why the fabric is water-repellent, and the canopy is UV-protective. So it reflects heat and has SPF 45 protection. All the better to keep baby dry and cool.  I’ve been pushing around the Indie edition and loving it. This stroller brings with it all of the amazing features...

BOB Strollers – rolling out the Revolution SE for 2011

There’s a running store on my block with a BOB stroller displayed in the window. Every time I pass it, I marvel at the lean, mean, baby-transporting machine. So when I had the opportunity to give their new 2011 Revolution SE a road test, I was both excited–and a little nervous that I wouldn’t be able to handle the three-wheeled speedster. What I discovered surprised me. First, BOB jogging strollers are not just for marathon running moms. Yes, their line does include special strollers made in collaboration with Stroller Strides and Ironman, but I chose the sidewalk-friendly Revolution SE....

The Maclaren Denim Quest stroller – James Dean would be proud

My favorite new jeans have wheels on them. I’m talking about the new Maclaren Denim Quest stroller. As part of their Objects of Design series, the denim stroller is meant to be the coolest thing on wheels at the playground, but it’s definitely not all style and no substance. Aside from its dashing good looks, there really are reasons for you stroller junkies to take a closer look. The durable denim fabric has stitching to make it look like a real pair of jeans, though the canopy’s weather resistant coating makes it more protective than one. And unlike some...

Finally! An affordable stroller that makes you feel trendy too

I remember when my first child was born. My husband and I agonized over what kind of stroller we should get. We were initially quite pleased with our trendy choice, but if we knew then what we know now, we certainly wouldn’t have bought the one we did. It was expensive, it was big, and it took up pretty much all of our tiny one-bedroom apartment. A few years later, I’m still a sucker for style when it comes to baby gear. But with baby number three on the way, I know a thing or two about what I’m...

Super snug bunting bags (that are also just a little bit posh)

I live in the desert, so I fully cop to craving the cold. I start wearing sweaters way too early in the hopes of somehow forcing the weather to cool more quickly. I usually succeed only in sweating. But now we’re fully in the midst of a cold snap here (yessss!), so it’s time to get baby all bundled up. And what says “snug” to a baby on the go like a stroller bunting bag?  Ralph Lauren (whose classic tartans always make me feel fall-ish) has these beautiful quilted stroller bunting bags which are fully lined in fleece and...

Breaking News: Graco Stroller Recall

If you mamas are owners of the Graco Quattro or MetroLite strollers that was bought before November 2007, check the serial numbers because they’ve been voluntarily recalled by Graco and the CPSC. The CPSC reports that babies can try to squeeze out under the tray and get caught resulting in cuts and bruises. (We report that you might just want to use the lap belts with your babies.) If you’re just using the stroller base with an infant seat as a travel system, there’s no danger at all. In any case, no need to panic. Just contact Graco for...

“Cool stroller liner!” “I know.”

Last summer, my three-year-old’s black car seat was always too hot and she told me so in no uncertain terms (“Hot! The Meeno Babies car seat, stroller, or infant seat liner is one of those gear essentials that, one you’ve tried it, you are dying to tell every mom you know about.  Basically the absorbent layers of poly-mesh allow air to flow between the liner and the seat, while soft fabric wicks away moisture from your baby. It’s easy...

Huge news: Bugaboo Donkey is here! A.K.A. Bugaboo finally makes a double stroller.

But it’s even better than that. This innovative stroller–which we’re going to have to wait for until Spring 2011–actually goes from a single stroller to aside-by-side double and back again. In...

Starting babies on organics early

I still remember my daughter’s first “friend” – a garish stroller toy that we dubbed Guy the Giraffe pronounced the French way, Gee, because it was the one sound my three month-old made. Oh how she loved that thing. And sucked its antlers. Every chance she got. If MiYim had been making their adorable organic stroller toys back then, I’d have traded in Guy in a second. Or at least found him some company. There’s an adorable bumblebee (shown) with equally suckable antennae; plus a ladybug and caterpillar, all made in subtle, subdued shades of organic cotton. There’s even...

Just giving it a test run.” And then I had to give the other playground moms a complete tour. The Flite is Bumbleride’s answer to the “luxury umbrella stroller.” Weighing in at a sleek 13 pounds and folding up into a tidy little package,...
