The world’s cutest tableware for kids: We have a contender!

When my kids first started eating solids, they often reminded me of wild baby animals — flinging food all over the place, trying to eat without using their hands, and getting all the gooiest stuff mashed into their hair. So I’m pretty impressed with the new kids’ tableware line from Marcus & Marcus  which offers cute, animal-inspired designs help our littlest ones learn to eat like, well, like little humans. CMP is an rstyle affiliate Related: 14 of the coolest baby gifts and gear we wish we had when we were new moms. 10 of the best glass baby bottles for Earth Day and any day.

With news that even Phthalate-free and BPA-free plastic baby bottles may not be all they’re cracked up to be, more parents are on the hunt for glass baby bottles. While not long ago, the idea of glass baby bottles once inspired panic in the hearts of new parents — and I remember those days! — glass in the diaper bag is becoming increasingly prevalent. Even old school bottle brands that were holding out for years are now out with glass alternatives and hey, we’re all for choice when it comes to our baby gear. Glass baby bottles, for the uninitiated are made of...

Klean Kanteen, now insulated for keeping that extra-hot macchiato extra-hot on the go

Along with so many other parents, we’re longtime fans of the cult favorite, eco-friendly, stainless steel water bottles from Klean Kanteen. They give us confidence in the “not killing our kids” department, and do a great job of making our water tasting like water, even when the bottle held a strawberry smoothie the day before. And now that we’ve spent a few weeks crunching through icy snow every day, I’m pretty excited to get my hands on their new double-walled, Kleen Kanteen vacuum insulated water bottles, designed to keep drinks steaming hot for up to 6 hours. This is big news! And a definite improvement to the cold coffee I’ve been...

A fashionable pacifier clip? Who knew.

Teething babies have been sinking their chompers into colorful, fashionable and safe Chewbeads ever since their bracelets and necklaces started appearing on the coolest new mamas. And now, along with their toddler-friendly teethers and playful older-kid Juniorbeads, they’ve come up with their own line of pacifier clips to keep many babies’ favorite mouth accessory right where they want it. Chewbeads’ “Where’s the Pacifier?” Pacifier Clip keeps those pesky binkies attached with a cute silicone clip tethered to their trademark soft beads that are safe to chew on, and bright enough to find should they become lost in a pile of stuffed animals. Even better, some of those...

The insulated water bottle that makes my heart S’well

When I asked my friend at the park about her water bottle and she told me it was, and I quote, the best water bottle in the world, obviously I had to know more. She introduced me to S’well, a line of insulated water bottles that keep drinks cold without leaking or getting any condensation on the side. And it turns out I may be the last to know about them, since they were featured in our back to school guide this year as one of the coolest lunchbox accessories. The first thing you’ll notice is that S’well bottles are absolutely...

Picnic-perfect plastic tableware for toddlers

It’s picnic weather down South, and we’re spending most nights out on the back porch, sipping on some tea and eating dinner with the neighbors. It’s idyllic, until the kids start playing frisbee with their plates. I’m not big on plastic dinnerware inside, but when we’re dining al fresco you never know what can happen, so I stick with the non-breakable–and preferably non-toxic–variety of kids’ cups dishes tableware. If you’re looking for an option beyond melamine but with the same durability and convenience, our family’s new favorites are the cool kids’ dishes in Lollaland’s mealtime set. Made in the USA in...

Is it safe for babies to suck on keys? They are if they’re these keys.

I swear I am not Alarmist Mom. I did not plug every outlet when my kids were toddlers and my jeans were the only pacifier sterilizer I owned. But one thing I knew is that I didn’t want my kids sucking on keys, knowing that real keys may be one of the worst things for them to put in their mouths. And that includes the cat.    I’m so happy to see that CMP favorite Green Toys has expanded their baby toys line with a set of toy keys for babies that they can teethe on to their heart’s content, and...

The water bottle that never leaks. Ever.

I’m kind of floored to admit that the new Active Top Smart Drinking System from SIGG absolutely refused to leak no matter how much I abused it. This new line of bottles for adults and kids has a liner that’s eco-friendly, BPA-free and phthalate-free, plus it’s recyclable and practically unbreakable. It’s designed so that kids can drink out of this bottle without tilting it–not to mention carry it upside down in a backpack full of report cards or fall asleep with it in their lap during a long car trip and wake up with dry pants. And I know,...

Baby-friendly bling: necklaces safe for little nibblers

When my son was a baby, he was fascinated by my jewelry–a fascination that led to his stuffing fistfuls of my necklaces into his curious mouth. Worried that my necklaces might be sporting some not-so-friendly chemicals, I stopped wearing them altogether. At the time, I didn’t have any other option–because I didn’t have any Chewbeads. Chewbeads, which we love so much you’ll find them in our Baby Shower Gift Guide, are every bling-crazy mom’s salvation. These non-toxic, silicone jewelry pieces are stylish for mama and intriguingly colorful (and mouth-safe) for babies who like to chomp. And now I’m loving...

Pimpin’ the hose

Tap water’s making a comeback, and here’s a great way to share the love. And the water. On the surface, Faucet Face is a company that sells glass water bottles. But behind the scenes, they’re trying to start a movement towards tap water and away from pricey and eco-unfriendly bottled water. As part of their initiative, every bottle you buy helps build water filters in rural India, providing a minimum of 100 liters per bottle. In fact four bottles means one complete water filter will be donated. Pretty great. Fear not the glass bottles! We’ve covered them before (bkr...

Relief from teething pain–and baby mealtime drama

Getting babies to transition to solid foods can sometimes be a bit of a struggle. But while this new set can’t make the taste of rice cereal more appealing, it can make mealtime more enjoyable for both of you.  The Oogaa baby mealtime set is so clever. Instead of plastic or wood, it’s made of a super soft silicone that is BPA and toxin-free, and delightfully bendy. Your little teether can even gnaw on the spoon for relief. Then, as your toddler gets older and transitions to more foods, the design is still smart with spoons shaped like an...

Pura Kiki bottles let you ditch plastic sippy cups for stainless steel

I admit that I was pretty skeptical of the stainless steel baby bottle trend, and never could actually make the leap. But now that my baby is of sippy cup age, I am pretty intrigued by the idea of stainless steel sippy cups. The Pura Kiki stainless steel toddler bottle has become a fixture in the hands of my 17-month old, pretty much converting me from the slew of plastic sippy cups that are stuffed in my kitchen drawers. They just wear so well compared to the plastic that looks beaten up pretty quickly, and I love how easy they are to wash....

Childproofing window blind cords – that should be the least of a new mom’s problems

Our new house has lots of windows, with lots of brand-new window blinds. That means lots of window blind cords — and, to parents, those are serious business. So I was really happy to find these fabulous window blind cord winders by one of our favorite, eco-friendly childproofing company. In fact, they may be the only eco-friendly childproofing company. The window blind cord winders from Rhoost, made of non-toxic, BPA-free, 100% recyclable plastic, require absolutely zero tools to install–all you do is loop the cords securely through the appropriate...

Customized coffee mugs for keeps

I’ve always loved coffee, but it took becoming a mother to truly appreciate the wonder that is take-out coffee. Yes, the coffee is more expensive than if I made it myself, but my daily latte is an indulgence I allow myself for a few minutes of peace. However, there is one thing about my little coffee habit that’s been bothering me: All those paper cups can’t be good for the planet. In fact 500 billion disposable cups are made every year. So I’ve been looking for the perfect reusable cup. Enter KeepCup: barista-approved, thoughtfully-designed, BPA-free, reusable coffee cups. Pick your...

New glass baby food containers make it easy to wean off the plastic

I admit to using plastic food containers for everything from storing leftovers to housing fresh made baby food. Yes, I cringe every time I put them in the dishwasher and I do find it a pain in the rear to take the extra step of pouring the contents in a porcelain bowl to microwave the food. But it’s not easy finding glass containers that snap shut as easily as the plastic ones. Hooray for Wean Green (gotta love the name!), an eco-friendly line of tempered glass food containers with BPA-free, totally secure, and very pretty lids. What I love most about...

The no glass, no plastic, drive your carrots to school plate

Forget the plastic–we’ve found a shiny little metal school bus that’s ready to rock the five food groups– and keep them separated, too. The Din Din Smart Stainless Steel Bus Platter is non-toxic, lead-free, and it’s heavy-duty, too; we haven’t had a single dent or a dot of rust in several weeks of constant use. Although putting it in the microwave would result in electrifying, Back to the Future-ish escapades, it works just fine in the dishwasher. And my kids love it so much that I kind of wish I had gotten two at once (which you can actually...

The FDA bans BPA (sort of)

As a glass-is-half-full kind of person, I am thrilled to read that the FDA has (finally) agreed to ban the use of BPA in all baby bottles and spill-proof cups. OK, sure, Europe, Canada and China, along with a handful of U.S. states, have already made this move. And I know that the words BPA-free have already been on just about every baby bottle and sippy cup label for the past couple of years. But I’ll give the FDA credit for issuing the ban, even if it seems to be coming a little late and really doesn’t go far...

GreenEats makes dinner eco-friendly

I’m not shy at all about my love for eco-friendly Green Toys, so it’s probably no surprise that I squealed a little (okay, a lot) when I heard they were launching a line of tableware for kids.
