Micuna’s cool modern baby furniture from Spain, now finally available in the U.S.

I’ve had my eye on Micuna, a popular, gorgeous line of eco-friendly, modern baby furniture made in Spain, for a while now. But shipping from Europe is kind of a nonstarter. Well, now parents of new babies — at least who happen to have an ample nursery decor budget — are in luck, because Micuna is finally available in the U.S. They make the kind of high chair you won’t stash away in the pantry when friends come over to dinner, and the Micuna crib is probably one you’ll keep for your grandkids one day. They’re that nice. However the real reason Micuna has become such a cult favorite...

9 travel essentials for babies that are worth the money

Going on a vacation with a baby can be a lot of work, but if there’s anyone who needs to get away and relax for a while it’s a new parent. (We support you, new parents!) We have all packed for a lot of trips over the years, and we’ve put our heads together to figure out which travel essentials for babies are great to have on hand — and which are totally unnecessary. Some of these are splurges, some are bargains. But I really think they’re all great values because they do a great job at what they’re supposed to do. After all, your...

One of the best crib mattress we’ve found that helps parents sleep better too.

New parents spend a good amount of time deciding on the right crib but the mattress is really more important, considering it’s what your baby is actually sleeping on. So what makes a crib mattress “the best crib mattress?” I always thought it was mainly about support and good quality materials; the idea of safety as it relates to breathability never really occurred to me. Let alone washability. But the Newton crib mattress has opened my eyes. And it’s not a zillion dollars, either. My 7-year-old daughter cannot wait for a little sister to join our family . . . and her bedroom, which I have to admit, it’s been tricky trying to find furniture that will mix a big kid look with the needs of an infant, but not any more. We’re excited to give you guys the first exclusive look at Stokke Home, a new line of modular furniture from Stokke that features beautiful minimalist pieces that will grow with your child. Our new favorite couple: aden + anais and Stokke. Aren’t they cute together?

We’ve been longtime fans of aden + anais and all their lovely textiles for our babies, plus the modern nursery furniture and stroller designs from Stokke are some of our favorites. So when we heard the two of them were partnering to bring us oval Stokke crib sheets for the Sleepi crib in aden + anais’s signature cotton muslin we thought it was a great collaboration. Time for a nursery makeover? Until now, Stokke has only offered their crib sheets in a range of neutrals—from beige to white to the very palest rose. Now you can find three of aden + anais’s most popular patterns—twinkle, lovely,...

HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper totally reinvents the bassinet

Waiting for someone to build a better bassinet? Well exciting news, expectant parents: HALO, creators of those cozy, fool-proof sleepsacks we love, is launching a bassinet called the HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper, and trust me when I say it’s a game-changer. (Get it? Bassinet + Nest? Bassinest.) Now I will say that when I had my first baby last summer, I was showered with tidbits of new mom advice, one of which was not to buy a bassinet no matter how adorable I thought one would be. I was told that a bassinet would take up too much room (a hot commodity where we lived), delay sleep-training,...

DucDuc nursery furniture for Land of Nod: an investment that keeps paying off

I have always loved the beautiful lines of DucDuc nursery furniture which gives parents so many more modern options for their babies. And as a little local Brooklyn company, I’m really thrilled to see their exclusive new collection at Land of Nod.     DucDuc for Land of Nod isn’t a cheap kids’ furniture collection, but it sure is a great investment. In fact, the DucDuc Verona Crib converts to a toddler bed, and then a full-size bed which means you’ll get years and years of use out of it even without having to have six kids. That’s more than I can...

The elephant in the room: Actually a gorgeous new crib from Oeuf.

For years now, Oeuf has been known for its beautiful, modern nursery furniture that’s meant to last. I’m personally a huge fan of their Perch Bunk Bed (visit us sometime and see it in action) still could use the Oeuf Toy Store to wrangle the 8 zillion little toy pieces we have all over the place. Now, they have a brand new crib that is simply awesome. And not a zillion dollars either. While the new Oeuf Elephant Crib is not an IKEA $199 special, it’s not a mortgage payment either. Especially because the key aspect of the design...

Dream a little dream of your baby (finally) asleep in a cozy bassinet

With my first two kids, the bassinet was a bedside fixture for at least the first month or two after their respective arrivals. Clunky and awkward, it was not exactly a charmer — and my wakeful babies didn’t seem too impressed, either. This time around, I’m trading up.   I’m betting the Babyhome Dream will create a luxe enough sleeping environment for the baby to convince him/her sleep through the night. It could happen, right? Dream, by the genius designers at Babyhome, can be used as a bedside bassinet, a travel cot, or a convenient, comfy place for a napping baby...

What to buy for twin babies? Reader Q&A

Q: I’m having twins and I need everything. Where do I start? Please help! -Julia A: For this post, we’ve called upon friend, blogger, and twin mom Kelcey Kintner for some first person advice. Twins! Yay! Wait, why are you hyperventilating? Ha. Kidding. I know it can be pretty daunting to figure out what you need when you’re expecting not one but two wriggly bundles of joy. I can’t help you take care of them (seriously, don’t even ask), but as a mother of twins, I can absolutely tell you what you really need to buy or borrow. And...

Gro Crib: Giving “convertible crib” a whole new meaning

I thought long and hard about our crib purchase back when my oldest was a baby, and I still remember wanting to find something that I could still use after she had outgrown it. Back then, that meant it could be used as a toddler bed–which I thought was pretty awesome. But these days, I’m blown away by how creative designers have become in making a simple crib something parents will be able to use even when their kids are in high school. Seriously.   The GRO convertible crib is like nothing I’ve ever seen. Not only is it...

Lotus Everywhere Crib: Puts “travel” back in travel crib

I’m always amazed to see the vast improvements in baby gear even since my littlest one, only two, was a baby, which gives me hope that they will one day be able to manufacture sleep for us parents. Ha. Until then, I’ll just take little advances, like what the folks at Guava Family have done to the travel crib. The new Guava Family Lotus Everywhere crib has a sleek, compact design, and what’s really special: a handy convertible carrying bag that you can turn into a backpack. As a mom of four, I can appreciate having two extra hands, especially...

The best portable travel crib? journeyBee is an excellent new contender

Back when my now-tween was a babe, the one piece of equipment I dreaded using above almost anything else was her “portable” playpen. It weighed a ton, pinched my fingers every time I tried to assemble it, and just looked like a big ugly netted cage taking over whatever room in which it was placed. So I am a wee bit jealous, and a whole lot excited, for you new parents who can spend the year traveling a lot lighter with this travel crib that is ready to pop up wherever you go. {Keep reading for your chance to...

Breaking news: Peapod travel crib recall

Just yesterday, the CPSC and KidCo Inc. recalled all 220,000 of their Peapod travel cribs that have been sold since 2005. We were so sad to hear that the recall was due to a possible infant death (though the cause is unknown), and others being trapped and distressed–however these occurred in some cases due to users placing the mattress on the floor of the tent and not in the pocket as the directions specify. KidCo Inc. is offering a kit so parents who own a Peapod travel beds and Peapod Plus travel beds can fix them, making the cribs safe...
